07.16.10 | Honestly, I would in a heart beat. But then release underground material to mah real fans. Probably not though, just sellout, get a mansion and some bitchez n coke. |
AnotherBrick
07.16.10 | bands don't sell out silly. they become successful |
PuddlesPuddles
07.16.10 | fuck yeahhhh

BallsToTheWall
07.16.10 | In Lebron Jame's case, yes I would sell out. Any single day of the week. |
Romulus
07.16.10 | I like FNM style. Release a platinum album and get money and bitches and then release like the best album ever and confuse everyone |
East Hastings
07.16.10 | i'd pull a faith +1 and play christian rock till i got a platinum album, then spend all of the money and disband |
Flatliner
07.16.10 | they dont sellout, but they sell-in dawgy dawg |

07.16.10 | Depends on how much passion i have for making music. But on the other hand. I do like money. |
Slum
07.16.10 | psh yeahh |
MUNGOLOID
07.16.10 | probably sell the fuck out since i'm pretty sure i'd be a shitty artist. |
acADHDemy
07.16.10 | i think 'selling-out' is a fake term. plenty of bands that sell out actually get better. look at alice in chains, my chemical romance, and sum 41. |
acADHDemy
07.16.10 | (assuming Sum 41 'sold out' for Chuck... they stopped getting better after Chuck) |
Yeahtoast
07.16.10 | AnotherBrick has a good point, I think some people misconstrue a band's success as selling out, although, obviously, some do.
I would play music that I enjoyed playing, no compromise. If it means I get successful and some people see this as "selling out", so be it. |
Counterfeit
07.16.10 | lmao August. And acad, I see what you're saying. But I mean tweaking it so much to the point where you don't even care about the music, and it's all about the benjamins. If that makes sense. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.16.10 | As a musician, I would join a band to sell out, to make a lot of money. Once that band had ran its course, I would go do my own thing with the money I had saved and kept instead of spending it like an idiot. I would live a modest live, play music I love, make money doing something I love to do. Would I sell out to do that? Yes, I would. |
Knott-
07.16.10 | Probably sell out for one album then get pissed off and go back to making the old stuff.
Then again the music I would make wouldn't be far from mainstream anyway so. |
Hyperion1001
07.16.10 | The trick is to release material than doesn't graze the mainstream so as to never encounter this problem.
See wat i did ther? |

07.16.10 | the best thing about punk rock is you dont need to sell out to become popular |
Deviant.
07.16.10 | "academy legit question, how did aic sell out?"
My guess would be that he's referring to their self titled album. Aside from a few tracks that were still grungy, they kinda went full rock with blues overtones |
Athom
07.16.10 | id sell out in a second. |
Romulus
07.16.10 | I thought the s/t was a little more experimental (I mean check out the three 7+ minute pieces) but it doesn't matter this isn't the thread to discuss it |
acorncheese
07.16.10 | I'd sell out and make a foolish amount of money, then turn it around and build my own studio and record whatever the fuck I wanted to. |
couldwinarabbit
07.16.10 | Radiohead is the best example of not selling out and making money. They more or less accidentally got famous with Creep, then I guess the Bends was kinda a sell-out (but they haven't done anything good yet so not really) then from that point on they got more and more weird (awesome) and more and more famous, based on their weirdness. Then as I final effort to avoid "selling out" they put IR on the internet, said you can however much you want. And made so so so much money off of it. So basically I want to be Jonny's groupie (cause Jonny is adorable) |
Zizzer
07.16.10 | I would. I don't think music should really be a business, but if a band wants to use it that way and can bring in an income that way then more power to them.
If I were talented I would probably start a side project though for music I wanted to do. |
Dunpeal
07.16.10 |
I would like my career to be something like RAtM and/or Tool
i think both those bands have basically done it on their own terms. maybe some consider Tool songs being on guitar hero as selling out, but I would just consider that success
Maynard and De La Rocha are pretty vocal about their beliefs and I haven't known them to lay down for anyone |
Bitchfork
07.16.10 | I would, then I would move to a socialist country, make great music, and use the money I had made/still receive to travel the globe. |
