Best Indie Rock Albums
My favorite "indie" albums that I've listen to so far. Ratings based on ralbum as a whole, not just rthe band. No EPs are included. As rAlways, suggestions are welcome |
40 | | The Flaming Lips Embryonic
Its really weird and out there, but with an open mind it has some real gems |
39 | | Radiohead In Rainbows
Radioheads worst album since Pablo. Thats not saying much, this is really
good. |
38 | | Broken Social Scene You Forgot It In People
Great all around album from Broken Social Scene. Not the best or anything |
37 | | The Shins Wincing the Night Away
Good Indie Pop album, but some of the songs in the middle are forgettable |
36 | | Built to Spill Perfect From Now On
Very jam-rock oriented. Fun to listen to when you want something like that |
35 | | Ratatat Classics
Ratatat's most memorable album |
34 | | Built to Spill You in Reverse
Has some of Built to Spill's most poppy songs. A few hit or miss songs though. |
33 | | Modest Mouse This Is A Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About
This one is amazing at its best, mediocre/bad at its worst |
32 | | Stars The Five Ghosts
A very good, calming, not-to-intense album. The vocals are alittle bland at
times |
31 | | Deerhunter Microcastle
Great Album from start to finish. Still leaves alittle to be desired |
30 | | Broken Bells Broken Bells
Awesome collaboration group. Best songs are in the beginning and end. |
29 | | The Shins Oh, Inverted World
A fun album from the Shins. they make few mistakes on this one. |
28 | | The National Alligator
The album that started to make the National big and for good reason. They
only get better from this point. |
27 | | Modest Mouse The Lonesome Crowded West
Somewhat different sounding Modest Mouse album. First half is significantly
better than the second. |
26 | | Built to Spill There Is No Enemy
Very strong album from Built to Spill |
25 | | Arcade Fire The Suburbs
Great album. Not enough stand out tracks considering its length. |
24 | | Vampire Weekend Contra
Great when youre in teh mood for something light and fluffy. If Vampire
Weekend was an animal theyd be that cute dog thats really soft but kinda
stupid. Maybe a bad metaphor |
23 | | The Shins Chutes too Narrow
The Shins most diverse album, lots of fun summer music here |
22 | | The Flaming Lips Soft Bulletin
The Flaming Lips changed thier sound and cranked out this near masterpiece |
21 | | Modest Mouse Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Theres not a bad song on here, but there are some forgettable ones. |
20 | | Of Montreal The Sunlandic Twins
Really good and light hearted indie pop album. Always fun to listen to this |
19 | | MGMT Congratulations
MGMT's new sound works, although it seems like part of this album was
proving a point. |
18 | | Radiohead The Bends
Radiohead's first great album. Very rock oriented |
17 | | Built to Spill Theres Nothing Wrong with Love
A solid set of indie rock gems from Built to Spill. This one gets overlooked alot |
16 | | Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend
Fun Vampire Weekend album. No dog metaphors for this one. |
15 | | Bear Hands Burning Bush Supper Club
First album from an up and coming band. Great from start to finish, these
guys will be big one day. |
14 | | Radiohead Amnesiac
Its hard to go wrong with Radiohead. If you like Kid A, youll like this. |
13 | | Arcade Fire Funeral
Funeral is a great album with few flaws. Wake up isnt nearly the best song
found here. |
12 | | The National Boxer
The National's first masterpiece album. Nothing here youd want to skip. |
11 | | Deerhunter Halycon Digest
Deerhunter perfect thier sound. This one has a little bit of everything in
terms of indie music |
10 | | Of Montreal Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
Of Montreal's masterpiece. One of the most uplifting (musically) albums,
dont look into the lyrics if you want it to stay that way. |
9 | | Bedouin Soundclash Street Gospels
Refreshing Reggaeish album. Not sure where to put this, but its a fun and
relaxing listen |
8 | | Radiohead Hail to the Thief
Radiohead combine Kid A and OK computer. My favorite Radiohead album to
listen to individual songs on |
7 | | The National High Violet
The National make an album with all good songs on it. Not one flaw on this
one. |
6 | | MGMT Oracular Spectacular
MGMT's breakthrough album is worth way more than kids and electric feel. I
get why they were annoyed at that. |
5 | | Radiohead OK Computer
Great concept(ish) album from Radiohead. If you havent listened to this
staight through, get on it |
4 | | Modest Mouse The Moon & Antartica
Modest Mouse's darkest and best album. It holds your attention completely and
will have you wanting much more when its done. |
3 | | The Flaming Lips Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
The perfect indie rock album musically. Dumb lyrics, but who cares its all fun.
The layers on these songs dont stop building. |
2 | | Radiohead Kid A
Radiohead's best album, it has OK Computer beat by just a little bit. Really
out there at first, but its awesome. |
1 | | Built to Spill Keep It Like A Secret
The perfect indie rock album. Guitar hooks, catchy singing, overall great
time. The top five on this list was difficult to pick, but Keep It Like A Secret is
the right choice for number one. |
