| 2010 Digs
More digs from the year. There was some confusion on my last list, this isn'y my best of 2010 or whatever, just a few albums that I heard recently that I really enjoyed. | 1 | | October Falls A Collapse of Faith
3.5 - Atmospheric Black Metal from Finland. Don't know why it took me so long to give this one a listen. So well executed, and really enjoyable. | 2 | | Various Artists Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings
3.5 - Neofolk. A real gem. Includes bands such as Empyrium, October Falls, Les Discrets, Ulver, Tenhi and many other Neofolk heavy-weights. The collection is all new singles (some demos/acoustics though) and includes wonderful performances. Dornenreich, an underground band, produce what could be one of the top songs of the year. | 3 | | Zs New Slaves
3.5 - Noise/Experimental Rock/Drone from USA. Take Zu's "Carboniferous" and stick it through a drone blender = great recipe for quality Noise Rock. | 4 | | Tera Melos Patagonian Rats
3.5 - Math Rock from USA. Really good at most times. The later tracks rule so much. | 5 | | Grinderman Grinderman 2
3.5 - Punk Blues/Blues Rock from UK. Nick Cave blah blah blah
get it now! | 6 | | Winterwolf Cycle of the Werewolf
3.5 - Death Metal from Finland. Slays so fucking much. | 7 | | Owen Pallett A Swedish Love Story
3.0 - Chamber Pop from Canada. I prefer this to the LP. Really nice tunes. | 8 | | Senmuth Muzyka Stranstviy
3.0 - Ambient/World Music from Russia. Checked out one of this dude's (many -> very many) releases earlier this year. Was really good, didnt know what to get next, so tried this cos the album art ruled. What can I say? Such great ambient electronic music for sailing the seven seas. | 9 | | Soundtrack A Single Man
3.0 - Modern Classical from Poland. Didn't watch the movie, but got this instead. So fucking good. | 10 | | Lunik Small Lights in the Dark
3.0 - Pop from Switzerland. Got this from Willie's review. Is pretty awesome. | 11 | | Bethlehem Stönkfitzchen
3.0 - Black Metal from Germany. These guys are never gonna return to the form that they had with their old vocalist, but they still have the spirit. This one does not falter. | 12 | | Celph Titled and Buckwild Nineteen Ninety Now
3.0 - Hardcore Hip Hop from East Coast USA. | 13 | | Diocletian War of All Against All
3.0 - Blackened Death Metal from New Zealand. Two weeks left in NZ, hope I could see these guys, won't though. | 14 | | Sacral Reason Soul Splinters
3.0 - New Age/Ambient from fuck knows. Really good new age goodness. Wish there was more stuff like this. | 15 | | Ash Borer/Fell Voices Split
3.0 - Atmospheric Black Metal from USA. Ash borer's first five minutes of their song rules face, the rest is solid. Ash Borer are good as well. | 16 | | Death in June Peaceful Snow
3.0 - Neofolk from UK. Carrying on from Current 93 as the wierd 'apocalyptic folk' band to receive success. These guys are as quirky as ever on Peaceful Snow. | 17 | | Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio Do Angels Never Cry, and Heaven Never Fall?
3.0 - Neofolk from Sweden. Ahh yes, more Neofolk. This one is an EP, but no less impressive. | 18 | | Loreena McKennitt The Wind That Shakes the Barley
3.0 - Celtic Folk/New Age from Canada. Well, what can I say? Oh yes, how about I start with "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" Biggest disappointment of the year. Yes its a fucking 3, but why the hell would she do this, after showing the immense talent she has on just her last release where she put in a 4.5 rating effort, to produce this worn, yet sturdy release harking from her "Celtic-roots". C'mon Loreena, you're still kicking ass this time round, but lets hear that amazing voice put to good use. | |

11.23.10 | If you don't already know, four of Loreena's albums I have rated 4.5 or above. She still has the talent, but she needn't visit the trite sound that plagued her debut. | Phil
11.23.10 | Grinderman/Nick Cave is from Aussieland, not UK. I think I agree with the rating of it/ | DoubtGin
