11.28.10 | For me it's Oceansize. Most people consider Frames their magnus opus, though my personal favourite is Everyone Into Position. |
Pastor of Muppets
11.28.10 | If I had to pick not just my favorite, but try to pick an objective "greatest band in the world", I would choose Tool. Then again, my standards for quality correspond closely with the trademarks of progressive rock. Tool's music is extremely well textured, the instrumental styles are a perfectly complimentary, and their songs are structured so well that you can get lost and find your way back before it's over. Lateralus is evidence of these claims. |
TheStefan
11.28.10 | honestly its probably just
The Beatles- Revolver
though. Everything they did musically was phenomenal |

11.28.10 | Pink Floyd, duh
The current best band is probably like The Dillinger Escape Plan or The National or something |

11.28.10 | I'll take Pet Sounds over Revolver any day |

11.28.10 | i find Tool to be overly pretentious, and this is coming from someone who absolutely loved Tool a couple years back. Honestly, they are no doubt a great band, but they aren't on the same level as some other bands out there |

11.28.10 | I'll take Revolver over Pet Sounds any day.

11.28.10 | My opinion is that there is no best band in the world because it's relative to an indicidual's values. Some people like technically challenging songs, others focus mainly on the lyrics and others and just looking for whatever sounds good. So for anyone to say they think a band is the best in the world would be completely ignorant.
That being said, I totally understand what you're saying and if someone posted something like that ^ on my list I'd be annoyed. So I'm going to have to say For Today.
Great lyrics, well written albums and the sick bass drops. Check them out. |
wyankeif1337
11.28.10 | Just gonna say, totally saw the For Today thing coming. Prepare for backlash... but you're probably already used to it.
I think my favorite band all around is Rosetta. ADOM is one of my less-than-10 "5" ratings, they seem to really care about their music and their fans, they have a sense of humor (don't take themselves too seriously), and their discography is consistently awesome (they don't have a single album I would rate less than a 4). |

11.29.10 | Isis, with Panopticon. |
D41V30N
11.29.10 | Opeth is not overrated. Take a look at their album ratings all over the world. They have more than 80% scores in all their consecutive 9 albums, a feat which no other band in the world has EVER pulled. So it's simply Opeth from my side.
Faith No More, Porcupine Tree, maybe some Led Zeppelin, Tool, Katatonia, Amorphis and so on are also very good, but Opeth is simple extraordinary. |
couldwinarabbit
11.29.10 | bands that can be considered "greatest band in the world"
the Beatles
Radiohead
Pink Floyd
Sonic Youth
That being said it is really a contest between the Beatles and Radiohead. |

11.29.10 | i'd say radiohead. there's no one right answer though |
D41V30N
11.29.10 | To be honest, to find a best band in the world as a whole is difficult (it's still Opeth for me, though XD). I think you'd better ask something like: "Who's the best band in that particular genre?"
Genre-wise, for example, Opeth is Progressive Metal, Radiohead or Faith No More is alternative rock, Porcupine Tree is psychedelic rock / progressive rock, Isis in Post-Metal and so on. |
qwe3
11.29.10 | queen |

11.29.10 | There is actually no "Best" of anything, regardless of majority rules. Anything can be sorted into some kind of "Best" list.
Most people's answer would be Beatles, and it still wouldn't be the right answer. There is absolutely no way of having one thing that outclasses everything else of its kind |

11.29.10 | Radiohead
Deftones
Opeth
Undoubtedly the best - their discographies are consistent as it gets, they continue to grow and innovate with each record, they've influenced hundreds of artists, and they're all greatly popular. |
witchxrapist
11.29.10 | Deftones started out horribly, and then put out a bunch of albums with great tracks and mediocre tracks.
Radiohead is great yeah, Opeth peaked and fell off with Damnation. |

11.29.10 | "Deftones started out horribly, and then put out a bunch of albums with great tracks and mediocre tracks."
And Radiohead didn't? Pablo Honey was the epitome of generic, the Bends had many less-than-great tracks. No band is flawless, but these bands have more consistent discographies than their contemporaries, which is what counts. Also, please don't forget - Opeth have had 9 studio albums. That's quite alot, I believe. Even if they "fell off" with Damnation, this would still mean that 7/9 of their discography is incredibly brilliant. |
witchxrapist
11.29.10 | Pablo Honey is enjoyable, The Bends is awesome.
Radiohead hasn't put out any bad albums, Deftones and Opeth have. |
