| Circa Surprise
I've had some pretty surprising finds of late, and its been kind of nice. Not surprises in the sense of just a whim purchase, but albums I have comfortably written off for various reasons. Good shit. Also, with a lot of these surprises I was hoping for a couple more. In the shape of Circa Survive, As Tall As Lions or even Rx Bandits? Any recs on where to start? | 1 | | The Sound Of Animals Fighting The Ocean and The Sun
I could quite easily put all three of TSOAF albums on this list, but I had have to take their latest by a wide margin. I always wrote them off cause of these inclusion of emo garbage Craig Owens, and I've never been a fan of Circa Survive. This album has literally blown me away now though and I may be ready to dive in Circa Survive | 2 | | Portugal. The Man The Satanic Satanist
I loved the first three Portugal albums. Then they released this album either at a weird time. I was kind of bored with their sound at the time, and I thought what I had heard sounded like they'd conformed to lazy pop songs instead of venturing further into what I know they're capable of. Anyhow, finally got this and have since learned they are pop songs, but delightfully melodic and memorable ones at that. | 3 | | Tera Melos Patagonian Rats
Never wanted to give these guys a chance for whatever reason. I had friends who always dug em, and I've always been into the ATDI meets math rocky kind of vibe they exume often. Gave this a chance and never looked back. Great album that was more varied than I would have ever given credit for. The middle of the album is the best for me on this one. | 4 | | Pearl Jam Riot Act
This one was a while ago, but an album I feel deserves mention. I slowly delved deeper into the obscure half of PJ's discography, and ended my journey with this disc. Often ripped an and written off as the worst Pearl Jam album, I initially agreed. After a few listens though I started to realize this may have been the first real, straight from the heart Pearl Jam that fans have been craving since the "Ten" and "Vs." days. Maybe not that good, but a damn good slice of PJ if ya ask me. | 5 | | The Mars Volta The Bedlam In Goliath
I have fallen in and out of love with this album quite a few times now. I am recently coming out of an almost year and a half hate affair with this mammoth. I've taken on a new angle when listening to Bedlam now; that being that it's almost (..almost) a hark back to Omar's (definitely not Cedric's vocals) guitar techniques of his 2001 era ATDI. Maybe the closest to a post-hardcore TMV album we'll get? Eh, I'm an idiot | 6 | | Circa Survive Blue Sky Noise
Should I? | 7 | | As Tall As Lions You Can't Take It With You
Eh? | 8 | | The Sound Of Animals Fighting Lover, The Lord Has Left Us...
Hated it at first, and I guess I put too many slots, so I'll include this one to show my new surprising love for TSOAF. But yes, first listen, I thought most of this was unbearable. Like most say, let it grow, and grown it has. All three of their albums together somehow make sense to me beautifully. Great ass band. | 9 | | The Sound Of Animals Fighting Tiger and The Duke
Just because again, I really am digging them. Now I don't whether I should venture off into Circa Survive land | |
