09.04.11 | Miam miam!...
For those who thought that King Crimson was the 1st progressive rock band, take a look at #2, and listen to ''In Held Twas in I'.
I've heard some samples from Ian Anderson. Sounded great but I never revisited it for some reasons, and I intend to correct it. #5 is gonna get reviewed by our dear ProgJect sooner or later. |
JamieTwort
09.04.11 | Yeah "In Held Twas In I" is a fascinating listen. Procol Harum are a really underrated band.
I'll be looking forward to that review. |
vanderb0b
09.04.11 | Wonderful list, I feel right at home in here! Huge props for 4, such an underrated album. Probably gonna bump Mirage up to a 5, it's pretty much perfect.
Edit: Bumped it; Camel is probably my favorite prog band atm. |
JamieTwort
09.04.11 | Thanks vanderbob. I bumped my Mirage rating up to 5 yesterday strangely enough. |
Jethro42
09.04.11 | Ah! You're the one who bumped it JT, I was not sure haha. Go for it vander, your turn has come!
And yes, shame that most of the sputnikers think the only Procol Harum song that is worth to be listened to is 'A Whiter Shade of Pale'. There is so much more. Grand Hotel is my favourite album by them. |
JamieTwort
09.04.11 | Shine on Brightly is probably my favourite Procol album at the moment but Grand Hotel is great, just a shame Robin Trower's not on that album. |
Jethro42
09.04.11 | Looks like you know your Procol Harum more than I do. I only own the s/t and Grand Hotel to date. I only utubed Shine on Brighty and couple other PH tracks here or there. I have to revisit the latter one. |

09.04.11 | I'm still exploring thier catalogue, I've heard that A Salty Dog is supposed to be a great album too but that's one of the ones I haven't heard yet. |
Jethro42
09.04.11 | Salty Dog the song is gorgeous. Not too sure about the rest of the album since I never listened to it carefully. Just utubed it once while searching for outstanding songs. According to the ratings found on ProgArchives, their first 7 albums are worth a listen. So let's have fun! |
Transcend
09.04.11 | I hear that NewPeth progs pretty hard. |
vanderb0b
09.04.11 | Not as hard as Camel, though. |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | Yeah Camel progs harder. |
seifer
09.05.11 | fully intend to listen to 6 but never heard of 2,4,5 |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | 2 is a really interesting album, I recommend listening to the 17 minute song "In Held Twas In I", which is arguably the first true prog rock epic. 4 is a solo album by the Jethro Tull singer, it's actually more of a folk album than a prog rock album but is still fairly progressive at times. 5 is the Genesis guitarist's best solo album IMO. |
scissorlocked
09.05.11 | 1 is the proggiest thing ever |
seifer
09.05.11 | i love epics so will check that out |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | Yeah it's a fascinating listen and rather wierd at times, particularly the first half. |
seifer
09.05.11 | i dont mind weird stuff u can't mind that if you like prog |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | Very true. |
Motiv3
09.05.11 | 3 is amazing. |
Motiv3
09.05.11 | oh and so is 1, didnt see camel m/ |
Jethro42
09.05.11 | @seifer I assume you're aware Steve Hackett was the guitarist of Genesis. Try this medley - Shadow of Hierophant/Clocks-The Angel of Mon.

Too many people think that the two-handed tapping technique was a courtesy of Eddie Van Halen. Nope, it was actually mr Hackett himself. |
seifer
09.05.11 | thanks J42 will check that out and nice alt name |
Jethro42
09.05.11 | Yeah that's a cool alt name indeed. Thanks for the suggestion man. |
seifer
09.05.11 | but why the 42 just askin? |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | I'm confused. You realise Jethro's not an alt right, seifer? |
seifer
09.05.11 | huh what do u mean isnt it from jethro tull ? |
Jethro42
09.05.11 | Jethro42 was previously my nickname for a chatroom. 42 represented my age. |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | @seifer: Yeah I think so but I think you'll find it's his main account. |
Jethro42
09.05.11 | I dont want any other alt account (save ProgJect of course). I''m not clever enough with my English to do so. |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | I may have misunderstood what you two were talking about, nevermind. |
seifer
09.05.11 | well nevermind it's cool to see people liking prog most of my friends say its too experimental for them |
Yuma310
09.05.11 | prog it up and down the block, helllll yeah |
Jethro42
09.05.11 | Prog bands don't have to be that experimental, it's actually an option.
As for the alt accounts, I don't see the point. I understand if you get banned, but out of that... |
seifer
09.05.11 | yeah but most have some degree of experimentation and dont have an alt never needed one im nice |
Motiv3
09.05.11 | 'I hear that NewPeth progs pretty hard.'
Nah its not that good at all. New Beardfish destroys it. |
Jethro42
09.05.11 | It must be a hard task to operate a dozen of alts like some users do. |
seifer
09.05.11 | yeah guess they like multi tasking |
JamieTwort
09.05.11 | I've only ever had one alt and I only created that because I was banned. |
seifer
09.05.11 | well it is quite useful if you are banned |
