09.28.11 | Thanks guys. You proved yourselves useless. |
AliW1993
09.28.11 | "stoner/sludge pop"
Not getting into a pointless genre argument, but that sounds pretty epic. |
greg84
09.28.11 | If you compare it to 3 or 11 then you'll understand. |
AliW1993
09.28.11 | haha yeah i've heard the record and understand where you're coming from, curl of the burl seems too catchy to be a sludge song |
greg84
09.28.11 | The whole record is too catchy to be called sludge tbh. |
pizzamachine
09.28.11 | Did you hear the new MonstrO Greg? It might be your thing. |
greg84
09.28.11 | No, I haven't. What's this? |
zxlkho
09.28.11 | No Steven Wilson = fail. |
pizzamachine
09.28.11 | It's sludge rock

greg84
09.28.11 | Steven Wilson was close. It'd be my 13th choice. Haha. |
greg84
09.28.11 | Thanks pizza. It sounds good. |

09.28.11 | Delivery is what I do! |
Jethro42
09.28.11 | 2, 3, 4 are all phenomenal
Still have to listen to 5.
Not a big fan of Bjork and not sure if I want to listen to 12. I've only heard one or two decent songs of Road Salt I and Scarsick was average at best. |
TheArkitecht
09.28.11 | Anyway in a serious manner 5 and 7 are fantastic, haven't heard the rest. |
Jethro42
09.28.11 | Greg has the greatest taste in music on Sputnik. Right after me of course. |
greg84
09.28.11 | 'Softly She Cries' out of 12 will be one of my favorite songs of the year. I totally fell for its King's X leanings. It's a really good album that just needs to grow on me a bit more. People say it's better than the first installment. I can't really confirm it as I haven't really heard Road Salt One in its entirety. 'Linoleum' is a cool song. |
Jethro42
09.28.11 | I better add Steven Wilson's 2nd album to my listen to list it seems. |
greg84
09.28.11 | It has some killer tracks for sure (mostly inspired by 'Red'). A lot of filler too. |
zxlkho
09.28.11 | idk I don't find that much of it to be filler tbh (except maybe Raider II) |
greg84
09.28.11 | Raider II is quite cool in fact. I don't like mellow, post-rockish stuff on this album. |
Jethro42
09.28.11 | Aight then. I'm really digging that PoS song. You're spot on about the similitudes with King's X. As fot Linoleum, it's exactly one of the few ones I've heard.
What about 8, 9 and 11? Would I like some? |
greg84
09.28.11 | You'd probably love 8. You've heard 2 tracks out of it if I'm not mistaken. You'd like 9 too. I didn't think they had it in them any more, but this is a cool hard-rocking record. Biggest surprise of the year for me. 11 is kind of similar to 3 in many ways, but less immediate and focused imo. |
Jethro42
09.28.11 | ''less immediate and focused ''
Wow..It can be? haha
Thanks a lot mate. As for 8, you may be right. I'm gonna check if it's still in my archives =P |
Metamorphosis
10.03.11 | A lot of great stuff on here. Glad to see Staind, actually, it was a fantastic album. I'd add Thrice's and Wilco's new album. They're pretty great. |
greg84
10.03.11 | Thanks man. I don't like Thrice that much. I guess I prefer their previous album to this one. I haven't heard Wilco. |
omnipanzer
10.03.11 | Liked 6
7 is okay
10 is great
Not familiar with or don't care about the rest. |
greg84
10.03.11 | You like 10 but are not familiar with 1? Hmm. My point is quite obvious. Also, you should give a spin to 2, 4 and 8. |
omnipanzer
10.03.11 | "You like 10 but are not familiar with 1?"
Nope, I recognize the cover from the front page but other than that am completely unfamiliar with it.
"you should give a spin to 2, 4 and 8."
I will take it under advisement sir. Trying to work up the nerve to get through Buckehead's discog atm. ;^) |
greg84
10.03.11 | Haha. Yeah. Buckethead is indeed quite challenging to listen to. I'm personally not a huge fan, but his music has its moments, I'll admit. |
omnipanzer
10.03.11 | This is what convinced me:

10.03.11 | This aws really good. I may check out some of his albums soon. |
omnipanzer
10.03.11 | LOL
that one is from "Enter the Chicken"
here are a few more of his side projects etc.

10.03.11 | So, is Enter The Chicken the best place to start? |
Jethro42
10.03.11 | omni, except for that link you just gave me, I'm totally unfamiliar with Buckethead. Song is not bad I'd say. I liked its funky vibe quite enough.
@Greg, #2 totally owns. Up there with my fav Stoner bands. Thanks again for showing me these guys |
omnipanzer
10.03.11 | "So, is Enter The Chicken the best place to start?"
Haha, that's my question. A few have said Colma and a few have said Electric Tears. |
greg84
10.03.11 | "@Greg, #2 totally owns. Up there with my fav Stoner bands."
^Yes. Total ownage! One of the best records of the year. |
omnipanzer
10.03.11 | Colma and Electric Tears are good but Enter The Chicken is giving me the heavier edge I was looking for. I would say start with it but if you just want Buckethead by himself start with the other two. |
greg84
10.03.11 | Thanks for heads-up. I'll go for Enter The Chicken first. |
omnipanzer
10.03.11 | Try to find the 2008 re-issue as it has an additional track (shen chi) on it. |
omnipanzer
10.04.11 | Got the discog for 1 based on your suggestion. I'll let you know how it turns out. Liking "Marry Me"
so far but I'm not sure how you correlated 1 to 10 yet. |
greg84
10.04.11 | Marry Me is quite different. Check out her latest album. It may not be obviously similar, but the use of dissonance is striking in both 1 and 10. |
