Jethro42
10.05.11 | This is the suite of my definitive prog songs list. Maximum 2 songs per band, and the cover art doesnt necessarily correspond to the selected songs. No prog metal included. If you wanna help me fill the few last spaces, feel free to do so. Keep on progging! |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | If you dont find a particular band, you may find it here on my first list;
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=280733&listid=48175 |
sumyunguy
10.05.11 | Soft Machine - 1. Out-Bloody-Rageous 2. Virtually Parts 1-4.
Nektar - Remember the Future Parts 1 and 2
Also, am I the only one on here who loves Heritage? All I hear is people crying about how Mike doesn't use death growls anymore when they should be enjoying Heritage for the glorious prog rock splendor that it is. |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | Thanks for the rec, sumy. I myself enjoy Heritage as well. I gave it a 4. I just noticed that I forgot King's X. My two songs would have to be ''Human Behavior'' and ''Pillow''. |
ohioprog
10.05.11 | Great list! The only one I haven't heard is Dogma. Great to see Sebastian Hardie on there. It is one of my favorite albums of all-time!! |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | Thanks dude! I'd recommend Dogma's 2 LPs to any Genesis fan (before there were three). |
cb123
10.05.11 | some great stuff here man |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | Thanks cb123. |
cb123
10.05.11 | im gonna take a punt n say most of what i don't know here is 70's n 80's stuff lol |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | Well just bookmark my 2 lists. You cant go wrong with these since I were elected as the Sputniks progressive rock authoritah.
=] |
cb123
10.05.11 | haha i have noticed this :p ive been digging my way through crimson, yes, floyd and rush's discogs so i may come back to some of these down the track |
greg84
10.05.11 | Kick-ass list! I suggest adding:
Cog - Problem, Reaction, Solution; No Other Way
Shaolin Death Squad - Scorpion, Farewell
Godsticks - Norman
Memento - Figure 8
Moving Atlas - Parachute |
cb123
10.05.11 | finally someone else mentioning moving atlas! ive been trying to get them around for like a year now :p |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | Ahhh still have to get that Cog! Shaolin Death Squad f*ck yes, Godstick is also a grrreat call. Norman and Livid are my fav songs by them. I totally forgot Figure 8 annnd I think I've never heard of Moving Atlas. It makes me think I also forgot ''Deus Ex Machina (Italy)''. Songs; 'Exordium' and 'republica II'. Cheers Greg, bro! |
JamieTwort
10.05.11 | Very nice list, great to see 17 on here, In Held Twas In I is epic.
I'll check out some of the ones I haven't heard. |
JamieTwort
10.05.11 | "Also, am I the only one on here who loves Heritage?" I Love Heritage, I'm even considering bumping my rating up to a 4.5. |
Ovrot
10.05.11 | Would Dixie Dregs qualify? If so Odyssey and Travel Tunes rule
|
TheNotrap
10.05.11 | Some cool stuff here Jethro
Glad you like Absolution, but if you don't know Origin of Symmetry don't miss it.
I advice you to check some Queensryche and Savatage work to complete the list. More heavy than your usual prog choices but I believe you will like some songs.
Queensryche: Operation: Mindcrime, Rage for Order, Empire and Promised Land
Savatage: Gutter Ballet, Streets: A Rock Opera and Edge of Thorns |
greg84
10.05.11 | Also you totally forgot Atomship bro. |
JamieTwort
10.05.11 | Good to see 28, loving that album at the moment. |
Keyblade
10.05.11 | Great list, need to check out a lot of these. |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | Cheers Jamie, buddy. Yeah ''In Heald Twas in I'' is considered to be the 1st prog rock song ever.
@Ovrot, yes, Dixie Dregs qualify. I'm not necessarily fond of them, but I still appreciate a few tracks.
@Notrap, thanks bro. Muse is a great band indeed. Thanks for Queensryche and Savatage. Not exactly my kind of stuff, plus I specified that prog metal is not included.
@Greg, While Atomship have all my respect (5'd it), I personally don't find too much prog into it. BUT, if I'm able to consider Blackfield as one, I might reconsider it.
I totally forgot about Anekdoten (songs; Kiss of Life, From the Within) and Anglagard (songs; Ganglat Fran, Hostsejd |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | @Keyblade, thanks!
@Jamie, yeah 28 is a total ownage and is ridiculously a grower for a light-hearted sympho prog album.
There is so much songs you'd enjoy on here, such as;
7, 9, 10, 11, ... hm well, lets start with them and see =] |
greg84
10.05.11 | I think Agent Orange would fit right in. I didn't know you had this one 5'd. It appears you don't actually. :) |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | oops I have it at a 4.5, you're right Greg and I agree about Agent Orange fitting here. I haven't listen to that album since a big deal of time. I'll fix it later in the day. |
TheArkitecht
10.05.11 | Got this page bookmarked, fantastic choices from what I know, now to add the rest to my to-listen-to list haha. |
Jethro42
10.05.11 | Bookmarking is obviously the way to go. Stick around Arkitecht, there's still more to come for that actual list; I'm soon gonna edit 2 or 3 things and it will be completed 60/60 as well. HAH I just noticed I have to add some Landberk. Songs; 1-''You Are'' and 2- ''Rememberance''. Prog just has no end. |
cb123
10.06.11 | some oceansize would fit right in to |
Jethro42
10.06.11 | Totally. But as you can see, these lists tend to contain exclusively classic prog. For all the bands that flirt to some extent with metal (Oceansize, Pain of Salvation, Karnivool, Indukti, Shaolin Death Squad, Rainbow...), there will be a place for them in my next list which is gonna be devoted to prog metal and the likes. |
Masochist
10.06.11 | For more modern prog of the PT variety, try Sleep Parade. I bet at least "Weeping Walls" or "Everyday" could make a future list :-) |
Jethro42
10.06.11 | Thanks I appreciate, Masochist dude. Awesome stuff! |
Jethro42
10.06.11 | Finally. This final 'prog songs' list is completed. 60/60 |
Nagrarok
10.06.11 | Wow, missed this before but again I'm very impressed by how much prog you know. No Nights in White Satin for Moody Blues? Actually just got a copy of Days of Future Passed. |
Keyblade
10.06.11 | This list is so good. Definitive prog list. |
Jethro42
10.06.11 | @Nag; Arrrgh I swear to God I was at a hair to add it. But as you can see, it's a max of 2 songs by band. |
Jethro42
10.06.11 | Thanks a lot Keyblade. You might also take a look at list #1;
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=280733&listid=48175 |
omnipanzer
10.06.11 | I don't personally look for Prog outside 60's through early 70's but I'll be damned if there isn't a
bunch of stuff up there I wouldn't mind checking out. |
Keyblade
10.06.11 | Will do. Time to go on another prog binge :D. |
Jethro42
10.06.11 | @Nagrarok; As for my vast palette of prog, it goes like any music collection; one album at a time; A band that brings to another, you know what it is. There's no particular recipe =] The beauty of all this; It makes realize that our ProgJect has barely done the tip of the iceberg. |
UnnamedOcean
10.06.11 | Some big bands missing, such as Oceansize. I am disappoint. |
Jethro42
10.06.11 | @omni; To some extent, I could see you liking;
22, 23, 24, 28, 35, 39, 41, 43, 44, 55 and 58. An d I didnt mention my 1st list yet.
@Keyblade; Have fun, cheers!
@Ocean, don't worry, I'm booking Oceansize to my next list which is gonna be prog metal and the likes. |

DotEight
04.22.12 | Umm, why do you list the tracks like that? Weird as fuck. |
greg84
04.22.12 | The presence of Muse has always irked me on this list. I might check them out some day. |
Jethro42
04.22.12 | DotEight, I am weird as fuck.
@greg, try both songs I've picked up and tell me what you think. |
greg84
04.22.12 | I listened to them and I didn't like them. These guys are too over the top for me. |
Wreath
04.22.12 | The thing with this list that is so great as oppose to the first one is that you included bands that I
practically thought I was alone knowing about and some that I hadn't even heard of. Sweet as hell. |
Jethro42
04.22.12 | Thanks man. Sharing prog is a real pleasure. Let's spread it all over sputnik P/ |
Jethro42
04.22.12 | oh and Greg, fair enough. I'm not surprised you're not fond of their stuff. |
