10.31.11 | 3 and 10
Is 2 any good? Tried to download it but couldn't find it anywhere |
greg84
10.31.11 | It's awesome. It's been a great year for this kind of music. |
accompliceofmydeath
10.31.11 | Which of these are more along the sludge line? Preferably raw as fuck sounding. |
AnalAnnihilator
10.31.11 | can you send me a link? |
greg84
10.31.11 | 2 3 7 12 15 19 20, but really most of these are sludgy. |
americanohno
10.31.11 | i dig that wo fat album
|
accompliceofmydeath
10.31.11 | Cool, thanks. |
AngelofDeath
10.31.11 | Where's the sludge? |
Emim
10.31.11 | Seeing 14 on Wednesday |
greg84
10.31.11 | @Angel: Well. Look at my comment above.
@Emim: Awesome! |
Emim
10.31.11 | And by 14 I mean 10
AND 14 m/ |
greg84
10.31.11 | Aha. Cool. Both bands RAWK. |
AngelofDeath
10.31.11 | Meant like real sludge. Stuff like:
Corrupted - Garten der Unbewusstheit
Meth Drinker - Meth Drinker
Subrosa - No Help for the Mighty Ones
Tombs - Path of Totality
Morne - Asylum
|
greg84
10.31.11 | I don't know how any of these releases is more 'real' than, let's say, 20. |
Emim
10.31.11 | how does one drink meth |
Emim
10.31.11 | i would assume through a straw, or from a chalice, but this will require more pondering |
Jethro42
10.31.11 | I'm not familiar with the term 'sludge' even if I often see that word. I heard that Neurosis are a sludge metal band, are they? Awesome list bro, btw. |
AngelofDeath
10.31.11 | Well, primarily they're a post-metal band, but some places (including RYM) throw around the term "atmospheric sludge metal" instead of post-metal. |
greg84
10.31.11 | Well. It really depends on which album of theirs you're listening to. Some of them are leaning more towards pure sludge, others more towards atmosheric sludge/post-metal. |
Jethro42
10.31.11 | I pretty much dislike post-this and post-that subgenres. |
greg84
10.31.11 | How do you know? Read the title. |
greg84
10.31.11 | Which ones? |
greg84
10.31.11 | Well, if Clutch are associated with stoner, why not Lionize? I like this album a lot. But, granted it's the lightest album on here. I can assure you most of these are stoner/sludge and they're really heavy at that. |
Jethro42
10.31.11 | 4 is a light album too and it rules. |
greg84
10.31.11 | I see. Last.fm tags them as reggea, stoner rock, funk. And yeah, I agree. A lot of potentially unrelated bands are stoner these days. |
greg84
10.31.11 | It's definitely worth it man. |
greg84
10.31.11 | Sweet. I can't think of any other band who plays something like that. |
Jethro42
10.31.11 | You always have this;

greg84
11.01.11 | Funk rules! These bands are not exactly very similar to lionize though. They mix funk, dark reggae and some classic American rock, which gives quite unique quality. |
Jethro42
11.01.11 | Screaming Headless Torsos are quite electic. I've learned that one on drums, couple years ago, and I'm rather proud of it;

11.01.11 | Yeah. Cool song! I'm familiar with this album. |
MisterTornado
11.01.11 | Good list |
MisterTornado
11.01.11 | Causa Sui - Pewt'r Sessions 1
Elder - Dead Roots Stirring
Beastwars - Beastwars
Sungrazer - Mirador
At Devil Dirt - At Devil Dirt
Sleestak - The Fall Of Altrusia
Freedom Hawk - Holding On
Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats - Blood Lust |
greg84
11.01.11 | ^ I actually know Freedom Hawk and Sungrazer out of these. Will check out the others. Thanks. |
Jethro42
11.01.11 | Pianist Herbie Hancock apparently released couple of funky albums, especially ''Headhunters'' which I still have to listen. Funkadelic is another band I'd like to approach. This is a fusion song I love very much;

11.01.11 | This is some classy shit. I can't believe I've forgotten to check it out earlier. Thanks for the reminder.
Someone has just written a 5/5 soundoff for 16. How cool is that! |
Nagrarok
11.01.11 | Have enjoyed 3, 9 and 20, still need to find 4. |
greg84
11.01.11 | All these albums are worth checking out tbh. 1, for example, is crazy good. |
Nagrarok
11.01.11 | That's clear enough from the list title, but obviously I have other things from this year to catch up on as well. Will try to pick up a few more from here though. |
Jethro42
11.01.11 | Yeah 1 was better and better with each listens. I just decided to give it a spin right now. |
Jethro42
11.01.11 | Ah Ya, 'Flight Pony', 'Lord Chesterfield' and 'Timegrinder' = win win win to only name three. |
GodL1ke
11.01.11 | cannot believe Guiltless by Indian is not on this list. that has to be the best sludge of the year |
greg84
11.01.11 | I'll look into it man. For me, 20 is the best sludge release of the year. |
greg84
11.01.11 | @Jethro: This album will be very high on my year-end list for sure. Amazing stuff! Glad you're digging it. Velcro is just sheer magic. |
BigHans
11.01.11 | Great list man |
greg84
11.01.11 | I like what I've heard from Meth Drinker. Haven't been able to check out the whole album yet. |
greg84
11.01.11 | Duly noted. I'll look into it soon. |
