Acanthus
12.12.11 | It's cool man.
I hate 5, and other than a song (and possibly a second one) it rates below all their other work for me.
On 1 I feel what you mean, but it's also not my style of electronic music so I'm biased.
7, I never understood the bands following
With the rest I have no intention of listening to, except for Isis but they can't keep me long enough for an entire album. |
Yuma310
12.12.11 | Tool can play some great main stream rock. but they arnt anything more then that. |
anarchistfish
12.12.11 | agree so so so much with 10 |
LimbsandJoints
12.12.11 | 4 is pretty much a turd |
Acanthus
12.12.11 | He changed 10, forgot what it was originally. |
toweliee
12.12.11 | Hahaha this is so weird... I thought I was gonna get bricks through my window for writing this :p |
toweliee
12.12.11 | I changed ten because i remembered how much i dont like james blake |
Trebor.
12.12.11 | I don't like Tool that much either
Still haven't heard Dredg or Porcupine Tree |
Oathbreaker
12.12.11 | I'm totally with you on 6. |
Ignimbrite
12.12.11 | 2 is amazing. Listen to Panopticon if you haven't already. |
SaneTBP
12.12.11 | 1 and 5 are incredible. |
toweliee
12.12.11 | Explain burial pleeeasseee! i really don't get the appeal |

Auschwitz
12.12.11 | HELP ME LIKE THIS ALBUM PLEASE I DONT KNOW HOW |
InAbsentia
12.12.11 | I love 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8. |
Trebor.
12.12.11 | Untrue just creates a cool dark atmosphere that builds with each track. It's one of those albums that starts to make more sense the deeper you get into it |
Yotimi
12.12.11 | don't worry, 9 isn't that great. 1 is without a doubt a masterpiece though. |
SaneTBP
12.12.11 | Burial's atmosphere is just incredible. Also I love his minimalistic sound. When he adds something new, it sounds fresh and powerful. You should try Untrue at night. |
toweliee
12.12.11 | Will do |
Hordewolf
12.12.11 | Despite you being wrong your argumentation is just awful. |
toweliee
12.12.11 | Take some drugs and listen to koan sounds, you'll love it. |
InAbsentia
12.12.11 | "They sound pretty cool to me but they're made out to be some sort of godsend, i must be missing something."
Have you listened to Panopticon or Oceanic? |
toweliee
12.12.11 | only panoptican and wavering radiant, and yeah it was an enjoyable listen. Just nothing mindblowing. |
Dogget
12.12.11 | I like Koan sound more than I like Burial but they're so different I don't see any point in comparing one to the other. |
OnlyAnchors
12.12.11 | untrue at night [2] it doesnt work unless youre alone at night. |
TheseModernThings
12.12.11 | 3 - I thought the self titled was okay.. a solid album but none of the tracks made me feel the way I felt for his first album, For Emma, Forever Ago. I think listening to that and the Blood Bank EP will make you appreciate this album more. There's also that whole story of how he was heartbroken and retreated into the woods of WI for 3 months to self record For Emma. Almost everyone starts off with Skinny Love
4 - You shouldn't be listening to uke covers.. or any NMH covers for that matter. Jeff Mangum has a terrible voice, and the guitar strumming is simple, but it's so honest that you start appreciating the album for what it is.
6 - I think the exact opposite of the first sentence. Brand New surpasses almost all bands in their genre. The Devil and God has everything you want to hear from an album - Amazing musicianship, brilliant writing, and a lot of emotion, and they're blended in so well.
You just need to put more effort into listening to them, the three albums I mentioned have all at least taken me a few weeks to appreciate. But when that time comes, it will be glorious.
Welcome to Sputnik |
dammets
12.12.11 | I can't see how someone can not like The Devil and God. |
FearThyEvil
12.12.11 | I agree with 9 a lot. I find that album to be pretty boring as a whole big time. |
InAbsentia
12.12.11 | "I can't see how someone can not like The Devil and God."
It's pretty average imo. |
TenSecondsToThink
12.12.11 | 6 got really annoying after listening to a couple times. At the moment I'm scared of listening to it. |
foreverendeared
12.12.11 | 6 has some of the best lyrics out there. |
tkxxx7
12.12.11 | If you don't like The Devil and God, try Daisy. That album never fails to get someone into Brand New |
TheseModernThings
12.12.11 | yeah.. but Daisy is their worst album. |
Divine
12.12.11 | Brand New is pretty dull imo |
tkxxx7
12.12.11 | "yeah.. but Daisy is their worst album."
nope |
SaneTBP
12.12.11 | Your Favorite Weapon is their worst. Seriously, it sucks. |
TenSecondsToThink
12.12.11 | I can't deny that it's good music, it's the style I don't like. Vheissu is my favorite album, but Beggars is still the biggest disappointment in music I ever experienced. |
YetAnotherBrick
12.12.11 | What you wrote about Lateralus is honestly one of the stupidest things I've ever read. |
YetAnotherBrick
12.12.11 | Actually, judging by your descriptions for pretty much all of these, it seems like you're damn near incapable of getting emotions out of music. Which is pretty unfortunate, because music and emotions sorta go hand-in-hand. |
TenSecondsToThink
12.12.11 | Fuck, did you actually create a new account for this list? I want to see what stuff you love, if you don't like these. |
tkxxx7
12.12.11 | brick you really shouldn't let your ignorance leak across threads like that |

12.12.11 | "Your Favorite Weapon is their worst. Seriously, it sucks."
I was gonna argue against what you said.. but then i saw your album ratings |
Trebor.
12.12.11 | Calling music pretentious is really pretentious
|
toweliee
12.12.11 | tbf i like quite a few of these albums |
InAbsentia
12.12.11 | "alt"
Not necessarily. Maybe he was a lurker. |

12.12.11 | Really dislike four. |
Aids
12.12.11 | "I know its blasphemy to speak ill of this album on sputnik"
maybe 5 years ago, but now, almost every artist on this list is held in higher regard than Tool
and I bet in 3 or 4 years youll be listening to NMH and be all OMG I GET ITTTTTTTTT |
KeithStone582
12.12.11 | 1, 2, and 9 are pretty overrated. especially Isis. |
swallowtales
12.13.11 | What you wrote about Lateralus is honestly one of the stupidest things I've ever read. (2) But I don't
get Dredg really either. |
Masochist
12.13.11 | "maybe 5 years ago, but now, almost every artist on this list is held in higher regard than Tool"
Yeah...it's strange, because if an album/band is lauded for too long on Sputnik, chances are that it'll be taken down a peg or three by an outspoken minority. Brand New, Thrice, Converge, Opeth, BtBaM, Protest the Hero, CTTS...all victim to this ridiculous phenomenon. |
Masochist
12.13.11 | The kicker is that process can sometimes take YEARS. |
Masochist
12.13.11 | Triple post:
Also, anytime someone outwardly wonders what an "Alt" is as though it weren't a common abbreviation even beyond the internet makes me immediately switch to "guilty-until-proven-innocent" mode. |
Nomos
12.13.11 | I agree with this WHOLE list. These are all bands I tried to like, but just couldn't. Isis is the worst, and so is Brand New. |
demigod!
12.13.11 | i dont like 7, 8, or 10, but that's cause i've never listened to em... so yeah./ |
The7thVermicide
12.14.11 | Isis is pretty good ,also tool and porcupine tree . |
Zorak
12.14.11 | I liked most of these on first listen. Justt keep trying though.
And welcome to sputnik |
WhiteOwl
12.14.11 | Untrue is a perfect album for me but tbh, i didn't get it at first too. But once you've experienced the magic that the music has in combination with night life in a big city you'll change your opinion. It's like he wrote his music entirely for the purpose of listening to it with headphones on a cold night while looking at the city lights... |
Divine
12.15.11 | "1, 2, and 9 are pretty overrated. especially Isis."
But Isis is a better version of Tool, and you like Tool |
Zorak
12.15.11 | *looks at ratings to troll user*
