Favorite Metal Albums

I'm not really a Metal guy, but I dig plenty of good metal albums, and they are...
1Metallica
Ride the Lightning

Ride the Lightning is easily my favorite Metallica album, because its raw, loud, and angry. Good days before Metallica were teenage drama queens like they are now.
2Pantera
Cowboys From Hell

No matter what the doubters say, Cowboys From Hell is one of the most influential metal albums of all time. Pantera's unique Groove Metal keeps them unique and interesting, while the lead singer in this album is much better than later albums.
3Opeth
Blackwater Park

Always been a big Opeth fan, and Blackwater Park didn't disappoint. Featuring plenty of heavy, hard-edged anthems, and Opeth's signature low-brow, slow, progressive anthems, the album was perfect.
4Dream Theater
Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory

Arguably Dream Theater's heaviest album, the album was awesome. There's plenty progressive anthems that makes Dream Theater the special prog metal band they are, while there's plenty of their traditional, edgy metal anthems.
5Slayer
Reign in Blood

It is the hardest album of all time. Hands down. The riffs are fast and furious, the drum rhythms set the song well, and the lead singer makes everything work perfectly.
6Mastodon
Blood Mountain

Mastodon's unique brand of sludge metal makes them completely unique, and a breath of fresh air in metal today. Love the old-influenced sludge metal as well.
7Metallica
Master of Puppets

Once again, another excellent short Metallica album. The song Master of Puppets rocks the house, and the album works quick and fast, with one of Metallica's best albums of all time.
8Opeth
Ghost Reveries

This album was another excellent, varied Opeth album that shows that good metal isn't just for old times. Ghost Reveries is arguably one of Opeth's albums as well.
9Iron Maiden
The Number of the Beast

Iron Maiden was one of my favorite 80s metal bands, especially with the lead singer's unique, almost trash-like vocal delivery, the album's fast riff delivery, and drumming-led rhythms.
10Trivium
The Crusade

Let the flaming begin. Trivium reinvented themselves with this album, and made them more than the traditional, boring metalcore bands of the early millenium. Their unique, excellent, fun, thrash metal influences work well with their metalcore influenced guitar riffs. It seems as if the only people who don't like this album is the asylum of Sputnikmusic, so I guess I'm with the masses on this one.
