Define the Great Line
Amirs dad is very rich and very popular in Kabul - the district in which they live. His dad is never very warm to Amir because he is nothing like him, instead Amirs servant/friend/half-brother is more like his dad. The thing is Amir and his brother Hassan didn't know they we're brothers, in Afghanistan the Pashtuns are pure and of noble blood. And the Hazara's which Hassan is half of are dirty and shunned from society and many are servants to the Pashtuns. So what happened is Amir and Hassans father had sex with two different ladies, one that was Pashtun like himself and one that was Hazara. Amirs mother, the Pashtun, died in child birth. Hassans mother ran away 5 days after his birth. So all they had was their dad and their Uncle Ali. All throughout their childhood and into their adult life they were lied to because their father did not want his name to be spoiled by having an affair with a Hazara woman. | | 3 |  | August Burns Red

Then the soviets came and invaded Afghanistan so Ali and Hassan went off away from home, and Amir and his father left to America. So then teh book and movie basically skip to Amirs adult life, he graduate from college, gets married then goes back to Afghanistan to find his brother Hassans child.
