Best Of '11

Here's what I have as of now, although I am missing releases from: Ash Borer, Autopsy, rDecapitated, The Devil's Blood, Fucked Up, Hammers of Misfortune, Primordial, Raekwon, rRussian Circles, Rwake, Tombs, Tyler, the Creator, Ulcerate, Vektor, The Weeknd, among many rothers. Making this list has also brought to my attention my lack of a Best of 2010... I'll get to rthat during the week. Hopefully I can catch up on the 2011 releases, I'll happily accept any recs rbased upon this list.
1The Atlas Moth
An Ache For The Distance

An Ache for the Distance pretty much came out of nowhere. Beautiful, catchy,
and devastating sludge.
2Protest the Hero
Scurrilous

Protest the Hero never ceases to amaze. Prog-metal for those with ADHD and a
knack for a good hook.
3Trap Them
Darker Handcraft

Grittiest album of the year. Darker Handcraft is the definition of "in-your-face;"
you can REALLY feel the intensity and energy.
4Mastodon
The Hunter

I was expecting a letdown. I was wrong. The Hunter feels like amalgamation of
their previous releases, tailored for everyone - not just metal heads.
5Fleet Foxes
Helplessness Blues

Their self-titled record was a nice surprise, and this record proves that they are still
blossoming. If "The Shrine/An Argument" is any indication of where this band can
go, we're in for a treat.
6The Human Abstract
Digital Veil

"Antebellum"
7Beastie Boys
Hot Sauce Committee Part Two

"Say It"
8Krallice
Diotima

"Litany of Regrets"
9Goes Cube
In Tides and Drifts

"Lines on the Map"
10Boris
New Album

"Flare"
11Indian
Guiltless

Best album of 2011 with juxtaposing song titles.
12Ha Ha Tonka
Death of a Decade

Best album of 2011 that's both fun and emotive.
13Black Cobra
Invernal

Best album of 2011 featuring album art of a post-apocalyptic Antarctica.
14Batillus
Furnace

Best album of 2011 that has an extremely low number of ratings. (Sludge fans,
dig in.)
15Born of Osiris
The Discovery

Best album of 2011 with a guitar passage that sounds like morse code - "Recreate."
16Liturgy
Aesthethica

What is TBM? Who cares?
17Last Chance to Reason
Level 2

BTBAM much?
18Havok
Time is Up

Thrash record of the year?
19Giant Squid
Cenotes

Why aren't more artists experimenting with different instruments?
20Revocation
Chaos of Forms

Why aren't there more/longer solos?!
21Boris
Attention Please

Album highlight: Wata's vocals.
22Grayceon
All We Destroy

Album highlight: The flexibility of Jackie Perez Gratz's cello.
23Bon Iver
Bon Iver, Bon Iver

Album highlight: Justin Vernon not carbon-copying For Emma...
24Opeth
Heritage

Album highlight: It's not just another Opeth record.
25Obscura
Omnivium

Album highlight: Riffs and solos, duh.
