Ranking Noctourniquet

I'm being hasty but yeah. Album's a 3.5 for now. There are rsome rphenomenal moments but as with each TMV album since rDeloused, rthere's some bullshit thrown in as well.
1The Mars Volta
Empty Vessels Make the Loudest Sound

Easily my favorite on the album, and already one of my favorite TMV songs
ever. The electronic elements mesh incredibly well with the rhythm section and
one of Cedric's more subdued performances. 4:34 to the end is the musical
highlight of 2012 so far.
2Zed and Two Naughts

The verses are like a Glitch Mob/SNES hybrid but the chorus is one of the more
traditional sounding on the album. It ends a little abruptly as the closer on the
album but it's really fucking enjoyable. The keys rule.
3Dyslexicon

This one's a lot of fun. Reminds me of the stronger tracks on Bedlam. The
explosion of energy at the end is well-warranted.
4Molochwalker

Easily the least weird song on the album. If any of the tracks are to be
compared to an album like "Deloused", this would be the one.
5The Malakin Jewel

Was not a fan when this was first released, but it works well in the context of
the album.
6In Absentia

Madness.
7Vedamalady

One of the simpler songs on the album. It's a pretty focused track by their
standards. Nice and pretty.
8Aegis

AAAAAAND THEY'RE RUNNING AAAAWAAAAAY
9Noctourniquet

The drums seem completely off during parts of this track but after a few listens
I've grown to enjoy it in a way.
10Imago

Moar prog name-dropping.
11Trinkets of Pale Moon

This one's just inoffensive and doesn't really do anything for me.
12The Whip Hand

I'm not sure how I feel about this as an opener. It's pretty grating at times.
13Lapochka

Yeah this one's pretty wack.
