I live in Perth, which is where the festival rusually finishes up, and I have to say, this was rthe best organized one yet. It's amazing rhow the rfestival has grown to become the huge juggernaut rit is today, over only a few years, but there was ronly one or two faults that bugged me the whole rday (mostly clashes). The best thing was each rstage bar one had been transformed to two stages, rwhich meant no waiting for bands. If I had any rcomplaint, it would be that the D barriers caused rmore problems than they solved, and I would rsuggest to get rid of them and find an alternative rbefore the next one comes round. Whilst this line-rup didn't exactly fully appeal to me (lack of rfavourite bands unlike other years), I still went ralong and had an absolutely stellar rday. | 1 | The Black Dahlia Murder
Had never listened to them, but saw these guys upon arrival, and they
were pretty fun. Vocalist is good entertainment. | 2 | Dredg
Whilst not a massive Dredg fan, I waited out their set till they played
something from 'El Cielo' - that being 'The Canyon Behind Her.' Whether it
was the ill-reiceived 'Chuckles and Mr Squeezy,' or any other record, they
were still pretty solid live, enjoyable at the least. lol'd at seeing Anthony
Green to the side of the stage singing every word. | 3 | lostprophets
were solid. Played some older stuff, which was cool. | 4 | Four Years Strong
The perfect festival band. They're songs all call for movement, sing-a-longs
and just having a good time. The crowd defiantly got moving, with choice
cuts from Rise or Die trying garnering great reception. | 5 | You Me at Six
Josh Franceschi and his crew were better than I expected, his voice really
cutting through in a live setting. all round decent set. | 6 | Tonight Alive
Caught a few songs, and you really cant help comparing them to
Paramore. They only difference is whilst Paramore boasts a catalogue
where songs standout in their own right, every tonight alive song sounds
exactly the same. There is potential there, but I really just got bored after 3
songs. | 7 | A Day To Remember
If you've seen one A Day To Remember show, you've seen them all. They're
fun to see live, just not if have a few times before. | 8 | Underoath
Due to seeing ADTR and the timetables stuffing up, I completely missed
break even. Which was sad, due to it being the last time I could ever see
them. I arrived instead at underoath, who played alot of songs from their
'They're Only Chasing Safety' days. Was a pretty awesome set, I don't
really think they're missing Aaron Gillespie at all. They covered his bits
easily and confidently. The band definantly have huge stage presence. | 9 | Circa Survive
Circa Survive were my highlight of the day. Anthony Green is so animated,
flailing about on stage, his voice pitch-perfect, using weird hand gestures
and rubbing the mic with his beard, making bird noises, and apparently he
wants to 'suck all our dicks.' I think he wants to come across a little
different from the hordes of post-hardcore bands, and he did rightfully so.
'Get out' was killer. | 10 | Thursday
Having only really listened to 'no devolucion' I still managed to see
Thursday, and see them off on what's been said a brilliant career. They
really went out on a limb on their last ever show, playing through a lot of
older songs with huge amounts of energy, leaving the crowd chanting 'one
more song' long after they left the stage. | 11 | The Dillinger Escape Plan
Managed to catch the dilllinger escape plan, and it was the most intense
show of the day. the crowd were going absolutely nuts, and the band
reciprocrating that energy. Vocalist was jumping ontop of everything, first
crowd surfing for half a song, then pulling out a table throwing it on the
crowd and jumping on it. He proceeded to do a backflip off it, which was
hilarious because he went straight to the ground (but it's no wonder, have
you seen the size of him?). | 12 | Letlive.
best frontman. Bouncers around the globe must hate him. | 13 | Slipknot
half of their show is plainly theatrical, I really dont get what half of the
dudes in slipknot actually play, but I guess the live shows are the massive
appeal of the band. Crazy crowd, Crazy band. good set. | 14 | System Of A Down
biggest let-down. Their getting on, and were pretty rigid for the entirety of
their set. Being a massive system of a down fan when I was younger, I saw
them purely for that nostalgic element, but they were pretty boring after a
while. | 15 | Angels and Airwaves.
managed to catch a few songs, but their live set is as boring as their music.
yeah. | |

03.06.12 | Sputnik really needs to fix that editing bug with all the 'r's. Sigh | 00mee
03.06.12 | It was hey. Slipknots pretty much the same, but SOAD is less animated now. If you're into both bands go see em if you get a chance | BlueW
03.06.12 | letlive and dillinger were batshit insane fo sure | BlueW
03.06.12 | kvelertak for most awesome Scandinavians though | Piglet
03.06.12 | Dude, I saw Anthony Green mouthing The Canyon Behind Her too at Adelaide! Weird shit.
Dillinger kind of disappointed me. They were okay.
And I found System of a Down to be my favourite man! How could you be let down?
Oh and The Black Dalai Lama was pretty second rate... the singer actually pissed me off. He's an
idiot. | taylormemer
03.06.12 | Tub o lard | Gnocchi
03.06.12 | I'm thinking you chose the wrong side of those clashes | crackalakin
03.06.12 | Lamb of god were amazing, letlive and dillinger were downright insane and steel panther were hilarious.
| DaveyBoy
03.06.12 | Well, this is the closest that anyone has come to seeing the bands I did. Man, when I eventually get around to my list, people aren't gonna know half the bands were even there. | 00mee
03.06.12 | @piglet how did dillinger dissapoint? and I dunno, they just didn't do much for me, after seeing dillinger and letlive jump around like maniacs, seeing system on this massive stage and daron pretty much rooted to his spot kinda bored me. Haha why'd he piss you off? I thought he was hilarious.
@Ipodmastery yeah seeing ADTR over every other band on at that time was the worst call. but then again, you kinda just wanna have a good time with your mates and when they're seeing ADTR you kinda go with the flow.
@crackalakin yeah wish I saw steel panther, everyone keeps saying they were hilarious.
@Davey were you chilling at the stage Circa Survive were on all day? I didn't see any of those bands, and I think they're up your alley? | Piglet
03.06.12 | Well, they sounded too messy, none of them seemed to be playing in great sync. Usually I wouldn't give a shit given it's style and the way how the fuck around the stage. But yeah, I don't know. Just wasn't that enjoyable, at least from a distance.
Well, I was right up near the front for System and it was great. The circle pit was too intense hahah.
Again, I was watching from a distance but the band bored the hell out of me. The singer was sort of going up to the front of the stage waving his hand around and jiggling his man boobs a bit and then started rasping at the back a bit and then would come to the front again and do the whole thing again. It might of been the stage or not being part of the mosh pit but they sounded very mediocre. | DaveyBoy
03.06.12 | Mostly Alex. That & stage 3, where The Used, Thursday, etc... were at. | 00mee
03.06.12 | ah yeah. being right up in the thick of it makes bands more intense hey. And the pit for both dillinger and system was off the chain :D
haha yeah his man boobs and pot belly kinda was what made it hilarious for me. but I didn't really watch the whole set, so I guess after a while it got a bit repetitive. I watched the guitarists for a bit, and those guys are mad talented.
ah yeah, few good bands on that stage. Missed the used :( | FruityCatOfDoom
03.06.12 | Marilyn Manson. | taylormemer
03.06.12 | Was terrible as per usual. | SCREAMorphine
03.06.12 | Circa Survive are off the hook live, I saw Thursday on their last show in Melbourne which was amazing, would have LOVED to have seen their last festival perfomance | 00mee
03.06.12 | yeah everyone turned up for thursday's last performance; a majority of other bands playing soundwave were watching in the wings even. | ChuckyTruant
03.06.12 | UØ | ChuckyTruant
03.06.12 | sweet it works. cool soundwave bro |
