rockandmetaljunkie
04.22.12 | 100% artwork fuck yes |
Spec
04.22.12 | Sellout Metal ha. |
Trebor.
04.22.12 | great list |
YankeeDudel
04.22.12 | Only one I would probably change is Black Metal or at least make another one for 2nd wave since Venom sounds nothing like Emperor or whatever. Otherwise cant complain. |
macadoolahicky
04.22.12 | Post Rock? Post metal? Industrial metal? |
Twelve51
04.22.12 | nice list |
rockandmetaljunkie
04.22.12 | Math Metal ? |
Dimor
04.22.12 | Really good list. |
MoosechriS
04.22.12 | 40 made me laugh |
Oathbreaker
04.22.12 | 33 is so wrong. Venom are NWOBHM. You want to put bathory there for 1st wave and Darkthrone or something like that for 2nd wave. |
JamieTwort
04.22.12 | Great list. |
MetalBrony15
04.22.12 | Awesome, good list. |
VisionsFromTheDarkSide
04.22.12 | Lol at 40. Probably wouldn't have put Reign in Blood though, I don't think it was one of the first thrash albums |
rockandmetaljunkie
04.22.12 | ^ No, but it's definitely genre defining. |
rockandmetaljunkie
04.22.12 | "needs Integrity - Those Who Fear Tomorrow. 1st metalcore album"
Yeah i forgot to mention some genres |
VisionsFromTheDarkSide
04.22.12 | "^ No, but it's definitely genre defining."
Hmmm ya fair enough |
Mike08
04.22.12 | lol 40. Any Jester Race or follow the Reaper for Meoldic Death? |
Fuff24
04.23.12 | 26 should be Funkadelic - Maggot Brain. That album was the first really successful fusion of the genres.
Great list otherwise |
undertakerpt
04.23.12 | funny list. need some trip-hop tho |
rockandmetaljunkie
04.23.12 | Fuff24:
26 could be a lot of other bands. It could also be Faith No More's Angel Dust. |
deathofasalesman
04.23.12 | Wow this is surprisingly good.
Would've probably put Darkthrone's A Blaze In The Northern Sky or Burzum's self-titled instead of 33 though. |
Fuff24
04.23.12 | Not quite; Funk-Rock is alot older than that and Funkadelic (or Hendrix) arguably defined it first. Not that I don't love Angel Dust, I just do not think it "Defined" the genre |
DotEight
04.23.12 | Metalcore - Integrity or Botch. |
rockandmetaljunkie
04.23.12 | "Funk-Rock is alot older than that and Funkadelic (or Hendrix) arguably defined it first."
Yeah, i know it man i was in a dilemma of whether to use Jimi or Peppers. Hendrix was probably the first guitarist who influenced Funk to such a degree, as well as, a hell a lot of other genres too. But i think there are other elements in his first 3 iconic albums more dominating than the funky ones.

eternium
04.23.12 | 33 is wrong and should be replaced with Darkthrone. |
alachlahol
04.23.12 | ummm defeater???? |
eternium
04.23.12 | I also think 32 should be replaced with Morbid Angel. |
BallsToTheWall
04.23.12 | Fuck Darkthrone....Blasphemy or go home. |
alachlahol
04.23.12 | didnt you used to talk about trying to see darkthrone live for your birthday |
alachlahol
04.23.12 | lol |
drewcordova
04.23.12 | Fantastic list. This definitely required some thought. These are much more fun to read. I don't agree 100%, but this list is impressive. |
TheNotrap
04.23.12 | Sweet list.
Here some of my defining genre choices:
Hard Rock: Machine Head - Deep Purple
Heavy Metal: Powerslave - Iron Maiden
Speed Metal: Walls of Jericho - Helloween
Thrash Metal: Reign in Blood - Slayer
Death Metal: Human - Death
Power Metal: Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 1 - Helloween
Progressive Metal: Operation: Mindcrime - Queensryche
Progressive Rock: The Yes Album - Yes
Psychedelic Rock: The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - Pink Floyd
|
Venpts16
04.23.12 | The list wouldn't have been the same without 40. |
rockandmetaljunkie
04.23.12 | Yeah 40 is like THE DEFINITION of that genre. |
SCREAM!
04.23.12 | I'd put something different for nu-metal and black metal definitely needs to be changed since Venom doesn't actually sound like black metal at all (they're really just thrash/heavy metal) |
rockandmetaljunkie
04.23.12 | "I'd put something different for nu-metal"
Any examples given ? |
SCREAM!
04.23.12 | "Any examples given ?"
L.D.50 would me my personal pick. |
Gwynbleiddsfang
04.23.12 | lol @ 40.
and i would argue about 31.... but then again, RATM is the only Rap-Metal band i like, so it's no big deal. |
BallsToTheWall
04.23.12 | didnt you used to talk about trying to see darkthrone live for your birthday
Was that to me? And if so, if I said that I clearly don't remember it. Blasphemy is more kvlt of a choice than Darkthrone. |
JokineAugustus
04.24.12 | No Zao or Botch for Metalcore? |
MO
04.24.12 | couldnt've picked a better 40, maybe reroute to remain |
JokineAugustus
04.24.12 | How about Wrath? Nah its ok. |
MrElmo
06.07.12 | Missing a few : Throbbing gristle for industrial , Botch for mathcore, sonic youth for noise .
Also the genre defining band for sludge metal is not Eyehategod , the definers were definitly Melvins with gluey porch treatments. |
SaneTBP
06.07.12 | really is it so hard to understand the difference between noise and noise rock |
MrElmo
06.07.12 | By the way I think you also forgot Bullshit metal with Lulu from Lou Reed and metallica |
MrElmo
06.07.12 | yep that's right ^^' |
MrElmo
06.07.12 | sorry in that case sonic youth for noise rock , and lou reed (metal machine music) for noise , there is that better? |
SaneTBP
06.07.12 | yea |
pbass0
05.03.13 | "sellout metal" lol |
pbass0
05.03.13 | husker du should be in here though |
JokineAugustus
05.03.13 | ITS ALIVE!!!! |
qiblas
09.19.13 | Good list but where is some Faith No More? |
