2013 Albums You Probably Didn't Listen To

I was going to post this yesterday but I decided to write a little more about rthe albums so it got rpostponed until today.
1The Amenta
Flesh is Heir

More industrial death metal. Crushingly heavy. It has some overly similar parts, but
it's still a great listen.
2Astroid Boys
Bacon Dream

Welsh grime group with some hardcore mixed in that don't take themselves too
seriously. Most likely you're thinking that sounds awful. Well, I like it.
3Blue October
Sway

It's like a more ambient take on their Approaching Normal sound. It's a very grey
album, so some may find it too boring. I personally enjoy it.
4The Earls of Mars
The Earls of Mars

It's metal. It's weird. Sounds vaguely early 70s. Check it out.
5Essence of Datum
Event Horizon

Proggy instrumental melodeath. Shreds hard, but possibly a little too constantly for
some.
6Eyesburn
Reality Check

All you need to know is that this a reggae metal. Now go find it and listen to it.
7Five Knives
The Rising

Read Brostep's review of it. It describes this better than I could.
8Gaby and the Thurstones
Morning Follows Me Here

Very good indie folk album featuring a fellow Sputnik user. Listen to it.
9The Here and Now
Born to Make Believe Part 1

Excellent rock album from one of the members of Four Year Strong. Check this shit
out.
10Lily Kershaw
Midnight In The Garden

Indie folk/pop. She has a good voice but sounds like a number of others in the
genre. "Tokyo" is by far the best song on here, but it's not really representative of
the rest of the album.
11Night Terrors of 1927
Guilty Pleas

The new project from Jarrod Gorbel (ex-Honorary Title) and Blake Sennett (ex-Rilo
Kiley). It's indie rock with an electronic edge that leans to but never quite falls into the
realm of preppy white girl music. "Dust and Bones" is the my favourite song here.
12Noein
Infection - Erasure - Replacement

Industrial death metal. Gets a bit samey at times but goes hard too.
13Ocean Chief
Sten

Sludgy doom metal. Epic (as in the 15 minute song is the shortest) song lengths
made it hard for me to get through, but it was worth it.
14The Privateer
Monolith

I think this was the first folk metal album I ever heard. It's great. Check it out.
15Various Artists (Punk)
Punk Goes Christmas

The best Punk Goes? album since the early days of the series. Minimal chugging,
and mostly original Christmas songs. Lyrics can get repetitive (every single song is
a breakup song with maybe two exceptions), but it's different in a good way.
16Smalls.
Expecting The Worst

Debut EP of a catchy female-fronted pop punk band that doesn't rip off Paramore.
High energy, brings the jams. Good summer album.
17Thao With The Get Down Stay Down
We The Common

Extremely good indie folk. May be sound a bit weird to some but give it a chance if
you like the genre.
18Tidal Arms
Tidal Arms

Alternative mixed with metal and just really good in general.
19 Tides From Nebula
Eternal Move

Spacey post-rock. A very atmospheric album.
20The Venetia Fair
The Venetia Fair... Basically Just Does Karaoke

Some pretty cool circuscore (?) covers of good songs. Excellent EP.
21Twenty One Pilots
Vessel

Hometown heroes for me. Bright indie pop/rap with dark lyrics. It can be a bit
difficult to get into if you haven't seen them live first, though. Got my sister the UK
edition for the four bonus tracks (all re-recorded Regional At Best songs, but
they're really good and have some very different parts).
22Witness
Beacons

Newest EP from a metalcore/post-hardcore band from my home state. Not the
most original music but it's catchy and enjoyable. Also the guys in the band are
pretty cool dudes.
23Young London
Instincts

A husband and wife duo that does modern popular electronic music (no dubstep
here though) with a 90s pop throwback twist.
24Yuri Gagarin
Yuri Gagarin

Some psychedelic post-metal. Album art fits the feel of the album perfectly. Which, of course, is not on Sputnik.
