2016: Going Thru the Back Catalogue

I've gotten a number of albums on the cheap in the past several months (used record shops, library loans, etc.) and thought I would share the joy of the find with you all. :)
1David Bowie
Outside

Still in the middle of listening to this. I do tend to dig it when rock artists combine their sound with elements of electronic music and this is probably one of the best examples of that. "The Hearts Filthy Lesson" and "Hallo Spaceboy" are great singles, but my favorite track so far might be "The Motel". Excellent build-up in that song for almost seven minutes. Obviously RIP Bowie
2The Vines
Highly Evolved

I'm not usually the type of guy to enjoy the bands of the post-punk revival movement in the early 2000's, but I'll be darned if this album wasn't super enjoyable. To me, these guys seem to have more energy and interesting sounds than sister bands of the movement like The Strokes or The Hives. Cool stuff.
3Neon Indian
Vega Intl. Night School

I could maybe see this wearing off of me in 6 months time, but for now this is probably my favorite synthpop record of last year. I just imagine the band playing this record in some dystopian Blade Runner-ish future in a danky old back alley club with lots of seedy patrons and grimy atmosphere. Like the clubs of the early 80's never went out of style 150 years in the future.
4King Crimson
Discipline

What a great record, really showed that Crimson could adapt their sound into a new decade with ease as opposed to some of the other bands of the 70's prog movement. Unfortunately, the 30th Anniversary Remaster I have a copy of here doesn't sound that great to my ears; the drums sound kind of flat and everything's a little washed out. I'll have to find a better master of this record to add to my collection, cause this is one album that I would totally keep.
