07.01.18 | The Voidz - Human Sadness:
In spite of its 10 minute runtime, the song actually managed to clash a lot on its way. I loved the slightly electronic arrangement and sweet atmospheric playful song-writing. Queen fan's are sure to have a field day with this one. Though the vocal's don't share the power of Freddy Mercury, the group vocal harmonies, creative pop leanings and powerful/unique songwriting more than fills that void. This gem of an album truly deserved more spotlight during its time and it's disappointing they didn't breach the the rock scene amongst the likes of Queen.

07.07.18 | * brokeNCYDE -- "Salsa" ~ [1.2] |
BlazinBlitzer
07.07.18 | Brokencyde - “Salsa”: Dear God... this is the worst track of 2018 so far, bar none, no hyperbole. I could list the infinite amount of frustrating problems that plague this travesty, but I don't wanna waste anymore time on this that I have to. However, I have to mention that it's a) an all-around bore in which zero aspects were redeemable and b) it's everything wrong with cashed-in trap music. I'd pick Bree fucking Bree than this any day because at least that has a hilariocity factor to it. This is just nothing, and worth nothing. Fuck, I'm done with this.
1.0/5
P.S. I don't want to throw this on you with tons of other edits being made, but my rating for 5 wasn't 3.9, it was 3.2. |

Cocaine Jesus - Good vibes. 3.4
Yesterday - Who thought a profile pic of this guy watching England losing the WC was a good idea for a cover? Song is struggling to get lift. 3

BlazinBlitzer
07.14.18 | David Maxim Micic - “Stardust”: Clean techno prog metal, and from no part of that did I remotely care for or like. I hate to be harsh, but once the song tripped over itself it refused to get back up, and that's never a good situation.

07.15.18 | * Kishi Bashi -- "Carry On Phenomenon" ~ [4.3] |
BlazinBlitzer
07.15.18 | Kishi Bashi - "Carry On Phenomenon": It's hard to tell what to think about this one really. The whole thing is almost too odd and aloof, like a power metal vibe in a psych pop track. If there's anything I'll immediately highlight, though, it's the diverse instrumentation spotlight between the synths, bass, and violin, and other cool things. Despite the confusing nature, I thoroughly enjoyed this, so I'll go with

This sounds like regular mellow indie that didn't need to be 6 minutes. I have a feeling the big appeal to this are in the lyrics, but for me the music needs to grab me before I bother with the lyrics soooo...+.1 because I bothered with the lyrics 4 mins in and cared slightly more.

13th > "Stardust", what is this sequence? It gets better even more 3.9
14th> "FM", ok now it's done. And what is this, I can't bear to listen to it. 1.8
15th> "Carry On Phenomenon", Sounds pretty epic. 3.6

07.19.18 | "1000 Frogs and 3 Sun in a House"
So far this is awesome. I like the Jew's harp and the moaning. Yeah 4 mins in and this is unique and entertaining as hell. Somehow it got even better 7 minutes in when it added a psychedelic guitar solo. Butcher, did you pick this for me, because I love this. Is the rest of the album this awesome? OH MY GOD THOSE ROUGH KIM GORDON-ESQUE VOCALS IN THE LAST MINUTE. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

07.25.18 | OKAY so here are the new rules for 2nd recs (future list mods, do whatever you want, but I'm gonna be in keeping with these rules for the forseeable future):
1. 2nd Recs can only be made by people who are currently up-to-date with the day ratings (with a 3-day excuse)
2. Favor will be given to those who get their rec in first, or for some other reason the mod deems fit
3. Recs WILL be allowed to people who update their scores/spreadsheets in time to make a rec before the others get theirs in.
REC'ING OFFICIALLY OPEN! (gonna ask Ars to do a quick check in for his because he technically rec'd his ahead of time) |

Stereo- 3.8 |
BlazinBlitzer
07.26.18 | Clouddead - “Dead Dogs Two (Boards of Canada)”: Think of it like this: if the lyrics were keeping this song on life support, the vocalists were the culprits pulling the plug.
2.5/5
DJ Alina - “Power Drill”: It maybe as industrially connected and more pleasant than an actual drill, but the lack of true progression cuts this song’s replayability back quite a bit. I still enjoy it for what it is, though.
3.3/5
Why Bonnie - “Stereo”: Same deal as the last song except less interesting.
3.0/5 |

07.26.18 | In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country - I expect to dig this band a lot when I move to a nursing home.
"Makes me feel like I'm sitting in the backseat, as a child, staring out the window on a Sunday afternoon." Yeah, fuck that. 2.9
Lioness - Ooh I like. Always on the lookout for something like Sparklehorse. He's dead? Well, that explains it.
Some persons are not fit for this terrible world. 3.8
1000 Frogs And 3 Sun In A House - Is that a distorted jew's harp? Quality.
Otherwise a really annoying song. I wish I could remember what song from a previous month this reminds me of and that I liked better. War by Cow, maybe. 2.6
Haze - Your references and the video filled me with an instant hate. 'Weird and quirky weakness' overload in 5 seconds. Well that sounded harsh. Apart from that it's very nice, dear. 2
And I already gave my second rec, don't complicate this neeka! |

Very post punk so far. The fact that this is from 2009 is kinda lame honestly, like there's nothing really special about it. It just sounds like some people who REALLY liked The Cure were like "let's make a song just like theirs."

07.30.18 | Buck Tick - "Ao No Sekai": Awesome bass playing with a fine intensity to match. It's a little too stuck in the 20th century for me, but I can even dig that aspect at some points. Overall a great track.
4.0/5
Erykah Badu - "Soldier": "Everybody know what this song's about". Ma'am, after 5 minutes of this, we definitely know.
3.2/5
Amesoeurs - "Amesoeurs": I wish it would've gone harsher on the bridge with the fuzzed-out guitar, but a tease is okay, too. I guess the problem is that there's nothing for me to talk about in a good or bad way. There are some pretty parts, though, so it's at least above average.

Power Drill - I NEED SOME E. Thank god this is only 2.5 minutes. Bonus for originality. 2.5
Nightgown - Ahh this is what the doctor ordered. 3.8
Ao no Sekai - This is like being trapped in a Tokyo nightclub in 1987. Fun but scary and stressful. I pity the fool who want to combine this with Ayahuasca. 3.2
Soldier - OK I'm am ignorant viking but wth is the point of that brother mumbling in the background?
"yeah. uh. mhm. ah. er. ha. OH. woo. heh."

Sky Took Hold - This band always annoys me. It's really good, but also not my thing at all. But I'm sure that one day they will make a song I love. 3
Amesoeurs - *Perks ears* Neige, you say? Thanks for this. Just needs some kind of ending. 3.9
Penelope - Archetypical soundtrack to an American indie road movie, where the female protagonist is escaping an existentialist hopelessness due to being born in a pointless society and this song is where she just stocked up on water and fruit and is driving towards a friend's funeral in Indiana. 2.8 |

RunOfTheMill
07.30.18 | Ao No Sekai is one of BT's best songs... 5/5 from me.
Soldier was good, I'm a sucker for neo-soul, but this is admittedly not my favourite Badu song, I've liked what other things I've heard from her before... 3/5
Sky Took Hold, I quite like the tune, I think I might like it better in the conext of an album, some of the vocal sections tested my patience a bit, but not bad at all. 3.3/5
Amesoeurs has a sweet sound, but is a little repetitive. The vox are quite blissful, but I was craving a transition, which came at 2:45 and ended 20 seconds later to go back into that twinkly guitar line... Frustrating to say the least, but I enjoyed the mildly mesmerizing vibe - 2.9/5 |
RunOfTheMill
07.30.18 | Penelope was nice, I really loved that acoustic guitar line (reminded me of Nick Drake or Casualties of Cool), but I guess the vocals and drums kinda dragged it down for me - threw me off and a little too produced for my liking. Not bad tho - 3.1/5 |

08.05.18 | alright, i did the thing
i tried something new, and made whats called an rmarkdown file. unfortunately you have to download it to view it
here is the link: https://gist.github.com/mac7678/0949598af6b4f7b6a6be93f729c24a18
click "download zip", open the zip, and open the html file inside and youll see the plots i made for the "July" songs.
i can update it each month if you would like
I can also do an official statnik, i just though it would be fun to try something new |

macman76
08.05.18 | Statnik at the end the year sounds cool, especially if you gather all the previous song the day data, I can make a monthly set of figures for now, maybe put it up on google drive |
