| Top Ten Christian Älvestam Songs
No, this list is not a list of all of Christian Älvestam's songs as a solo artist. It is a list meant to cover the best performances by the bands he has been involved with. | 10 | Solution .45 For Aeons Past
The formation of Solution .45 with guitarist Jani Stefanovic after Älvestam's departure from Scar Symmetry was nothing short of a match made in heaven. While Scar Symmetry continued to release albums that failed to live up to the standards set by their 2nd and 3rd albums, Solution .45 was able to craft something far superior. This album's title track, "For Aeons Past" is a prime example of the energy of this album's performances and the attention to detail in its songwriting, made a standout song by it's pummeling guitar riffs and Älvestam's always amazing vocal work. | 9 | Scar Symmetry The Illusionist
The song that put Scar Symmetry on the map for many fans (such as myself), "The Illusionist" was just the song Scar Symmetry needed to show that they could rock with the best of them. Featuring one of the band's most recognizable, yet simple riffs, and one of Christian Älvestam's most identifiable vocal performances, this track is a melodic death metal classic in every sense of the word. | 8 | Slaves to the Subliminal
Immediately following "The Illusionist" on Scar Symmetry's second album, "Slaves to the Subliminal" is one of the band's definitive tracks. With lyrics discussing the impact of the media and technology on mankind and one of the band's very best choruses to date, this song will have your attention for days on end, and you'll be hard-pressed to go a day without listening to it. | 7 | Morphogenesis
Scar Symmetry really upped their game on their third album, Holographic Universe. As the album's first single and opening track, "Morphogenesis" was charged with the task of giving listeners the best representation of the album that followed it, and it was a complete success. A catchy, epic riff, fantastic chorus, and powerful solos make for one of the band's most well known and best songs to date, and arguably their catchiest. | 6 | Artificial Sun Projection
This song embodied the Scar Symmetry song structure of a mind-bendingly simple main riff in combination with many more technical riffs scattered throughout, all built around the passionate vocals of Christian Älvestam. Featuring groovy verses, cerebral lyrics, a standout vocal performance, hooks galore, and a short, yet memorable solo from lead guitarist and songwriter Per Nilsson, "Artificial Sun Projection" earns its place as a melodeth rocker that never fails to entertain. | 5 | Holographic Universe
The epic, nine-minute title track of Scar Symmetry's third album, "Holographic Universe" is one of Scar Symmetry's finest works. From the menacing, thunderous intro, to its very last notes, Holographic Universe will have you in a trance of musical ecstasy for its entire duration. Quite an achievement for a song that makes up more than 1/6 of its album's total runtime. | 4 | Solution .45 Clandestiny Now
Just when fans thought that Christian Älvestam's newest band wouldn't achieve the same progressiveness of Scar Symmetry, Solution .45 put that expectation 6 feet underground with this 16-minute progressive melodeth track. Featuring an addictive chorus, fantastic vocals, and many interesting riffs and memorable moments throughout, it's a track that shows Solution .45 in one of their finest hours, and serves as an astonishing closing to the band's debut. | 3 | Bladed Vaults
Appearing just past the halfway point of Solution .45's first album, "Bladed Vaults" features one of the band's most infectious riffs, as well as one of the catchiest and best choruses in Christian Älvestam's repertoire. This groovy track is made even better by a guest appearance by Dark Tranquillity vocalist Mikael Stanne, who also wrote the album's lyrics. | 2 | Scar Symmetry Prism and Gate
Possibly Christian Älvestam's best vocal performance to date, "Prism and Gate" is a three minute and forty-seven second burst of Scar Symmetry's absolute best musicianship. Per Nilsson's speedy, technical, and surgically precise guitar work perfectly complement's Älvestam's heaviest growls and most impressive cleans in one of the most well written songs the Gothenburg sound has to offer. If only it could have lasted longer... | 1 | Solution .45 Gravitational Lensing
"Gravitational Lensing" not only served as Solution .45's first ever single, but also as Christian Älvestam's first chance to prove that he still had it in him to create great music after his departure from Scar Symmetry. This song not only featured tight riffing and musicianship, but one of the very best choruses in all of music and some of Älvestam's most passionate vocals ever recorded. It's everything great about modern melodeth in five minutes of great vocals, technical soloing, and unique songwriting most bands could only dream of. Not a bad way to start a career with an entirely new group of musicians. | |

05.09.17 | Torchbearer has some Alvestam bangers even if it's not his vocals, At Takao River is probably better than a lot of this list | TheTripP
05.09.17 | Miseration is another really good band he is the vocalist in | SoilPethSymmetry
05.11.17 | Familiar with Miseration. Never really got around to Torchbearer. Unmoored is pretty cool too. It's just that when I compiled all of my favorites, these songs took the cake. |
