Best of the Decade: Pt. 2 (2015 to 2019)
This is my truly subjective list of favorite albums between 2010 to 2019, which were fixtures in my playlist. Pt. 2 includes those albums released between 2015 to 2019, in alphabetical order. Note that, from 2010 to 2019, I only allowed a single band to have 1 album on this list (other than Stone Sour's double album). |
1 | | Alice in Chains Rainier Fog
The videos/movie for this album were well done and drilled this album into my head! |
2 | | A Perfect Circle Eat the Elephant |
3 | | Apocalyptica Shadowmaker |
4 | | Arcane Known/Learned |
5 | | Bask Ramble Beyond |
6 | | Circle of Dust Machines Of Our Disgrace |
7 | | Jonathan Davis Black Labyrinth |
8 | | Disturbed Immortalized
Say what you will, this was a great comeback album. |
9 | | Elder (USA-MA) Reflections of a Floating World |
10 | | Korn The Serenity of Suffering
I dig this album more than "The Nothing" |
11 | | Kylesa Exhausting Fire |
12 | | kyng Breathe In The Water
This also could easily have been "Trampled Sun" in 2011 and "Burn the Serum" in 2014, both two of my favorite albums of the decade. But "Breathe in the Water", for some reason, feels like more of a diverse album and more poignant in its themes. |
13 | | Lo-Pan In Tensions
Similar to above, this could have easily been "Salvador" in 2011 or "Colossus" in 2014. But "In Tensions" is just the right length and powerful. I listen to this often, with the bass turned up to 10 - make's my wife come down two floors, knock on the door, and ask me to turn it down. |
14 | | Lucid Planet Lucid Planet |
15 | | Mastodon Emperor of Sand
Likely their best album since "Crack the Skye" |
16 | | Metallica Hardwired... to Self-Destruct
Even though I've fallen out with Metallica over the years, this album was a tour de force. Loved the videos prepared for each song. |
17 | | Meytal The Witness
Meytal Cohen is an awesome drummer. Saj Tacotin (of Ra) is a great vocalist and songwriter. Together, they make a hell of a team. This album, as well as "Alchemy" in 2015, are both great works. |
18 | | Muse Drones
My favorite album of theirs since "Origin of Symmetry" |
19 | | My Sleeping Karma Moksha |
20 | | Nightwish Endless Forms Most Beautiful
I prefer Annette Olzon, but this album is pretty sick. Also, who doesn't love the 24-minute track "The Greatest Show on Earth". |
21 | | Pelican Nighttime Stories
Pelican came back with a vengeance on this album... |
22 | | Puscifer Money Shot
The first Puscifer album where I felt they were remotely approaching the greatness of APC or Tool. Sorry to those that may upset. |
23 | | Prophets of Rage The Party's Over |
24 | | Red (USA) Of Beauty and Rage |
25 | | Red Sun Rising Polyester Zeal |
26 | | Sepultura Machine Messiah
A comeback of sorts... certainly rekindled my fire. |
27 | | Soen Lykaia
Could have also been "Cognitive" in 2012 or "Tellurian" in 2014. This band kept the bed warm for Tool's "Fear Innoculum". Also, I don't have the remixed version of Lykaia - the original is incredible as it is. |
28 | | Somali Yacht Club The Sea
"The Sun" is equally as awesome. |
29 | | Source Return to Nothing |
30 | | Stitched Up Heart Never Alone
A true beast of an album. I listen to this when I want to blow my ears off. This is what In This Moment should have become instead of Sex Metal Barbie on 2014's "Black Widow". |
31 | | Tool Fear Inoculum
For me, the absolute and definitive album of the decade. And in "absolute rot"ation (thanks zakalwe) into perpetuity! |
32 | | Voices from the Fuselage Odyssey: The Destroyer of Worlds
Where the great Ashe O'Hara re-landed after departing TesseracT |
33 | | Weedpecker III |
34 | | Wheel (FIN) Moving Backwards
Also kept the bed warm for Tool's "Fear Inoculum", along with their EPs "The Path" and "The Divide". |
35 | | Wolfmother Victorious
A great Stoner Rock comeback and as good as "Cosmic Egg". |
36 | | Rob Zombie The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy...
It's a short album at 31 minutes with equally short songs...but it packs a whallup. |
