| Sym Ranks Iron Maiden
I had to do an Iron Maiden ranking eventually, c'mon | 16 | | Iron Maiden Virtual XI
4.88/10 - Is anyone surprised? This record is just not pleasant. The Clansman lands a 10, Futureal gets a 9, fuck everything else on this disc. Though, I will say, The Educated Fool is almost an okay song. | 15 | | Iron Maiden Fear of the Dark
6.33/10 - Three 10s here, which pull it up drastically. Wasting Love and Weekend Warrior are fucking awful. Everything else ranges from a 5 to a 7. I would normally place this above NPFTD, mostly due to Be Quick or Be Dead, Judas Be My Guide, and the title track but the shite songs on here are smellier. | 14 | | Iron Maiden No Prayer for the Dying
6.60/10 - Really shocked how close this ended up to TBOS in terms of score, but you can chock that up to all the filler on there. Holy Smoke, Fates Warning, and The Assassin score a 9 for me. Title track and Hooks In You are at the bottom with a 4. Rest of this is inoffensive to good. | 13 | | Iron Maiden The Book of Souls
6.64/10 - TOO MUCH FILLER. Cut this down to a single disc and it'd likely be a few spots higher. Favorite track is the title track. Man of Sorrows is the definite lowlight. | 12 | | Iron Maiden Killers
6.90/10 - Too many duds on here. Debut just absolutely slays this record; I'll never understand those who prefer this for the Paul era. Four tracks at an 8 or higher, title track being the sole 10. Prodigal Son is the worst here. | 11 | | Iron Maiden Brave New World
6.90/10 - I've always considered this the weakest reunion era album, but TBOS just really REAAAAALLY needed to be 2 discs, right? Anyway, Blood Brothers brings this album down drastically. Easily a bottom 3 Iron Maiden track. The closer here is pretty weak as well, but the rest rocks. | 10 | | Iron Maiden The Final Frontier
7.00/10 - A consistently good to great album with a massive standout being Mother of Mercy | 9 | | Iron Maiden Dance of Death
7.10/10 - Journeyman is sooooooooo boring. There are plenty of incredible songs here though, such as the title track, Pascendale, and Rainmaker. | 8 | | Iron Maiden The X Factor
7.45/10 - Such an underappreciated gem here. There's only a couple tracks here I'd consider average, meanwhile songs like Sign of the Cross and Blood on the World's Hands are some of the band's best. I've been a fan of this one since I first heard it, but it has only grown on me with time. | 7 | | Iron Maiden Piece of Mind
7.56/10 - Revelations, Still Life, and To Tame a Land really hinder this album for me, as everything else is an 8 or higher, with Trooper being a 10. | 6 | | Iron Maiden A Matter of Life and Death
8.40/10 - Far and away the best reunion album. It's no contest, really. Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg and For the Greater Good of God are two of my favorite IM songs, and nearly everything else here is excellent in its own right. Though, I'd say Out of the Shadows is a slight dud. | 5 | | Iron Maiden Iron Maiden
8.50/10 - Charlotte the Harlot really drags this record down. Everything else here is just -mwah- | 4 | | Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast
8.63/10 - Of course this has to be high up here, it has so many classics. I'm not much of a fan of Children of the Damned, though. Funnily enough, I find songs like Invaders and Gangland to be perfectly wonderful | 3 | | Iron Maiden Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
8.63/10 - A seriously incredible album hindered by two songs that, while fine on their own, pale in comparison to the rest of the disc. Those being Infinite Dreams and The Prophecy. | 2 | | Iron Maiden Powerslave
9.38/10 - A nearly perfect record, brought down ever so slightly by Flash of the Blade and The Duellists, which are still great songs, mind you. | 1 | | Iron Maiden Somewhere in Time
9.75/10 - Alexander the Great is just a liiiitle weak compared to everything else on display. Everything else is perfect. This one has been my favorite IM record for years, and I don't see that ever changing. | |

02.19.21 | Over on r/ironmaiden, someone proposed the question of what our ranking would look like if we calculated our average score for each album. I had never tried giving their individual tracks number scores, so I thought it'd be fun and a way to see if my sput ratings match-up. They all do with the exception of VXI, but that one doesn't deserve a bump to a 2.5.
Plus, I've never done an actual ranking for these guys. It looks pretty much how I would have expected tbh. X-Factor maybe a little higher than I would have guessed.
I've been listening to pretty much nothing but these guys recently lol | SymbolicInTime
02.19.21 | Oh and here are all the tracks I consider to be a 10/10:
Prowler, Remember Tomorrow, Phantom of the Opera, Transylvania, Killers, The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Trooper, Aces High, 2 Minutes To Midnight, Losfer Words, Back in the Village, Powerslave, Caught Somewhere in Time, Wasted Years, Sea of Madness, Heaven Can Wait, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Stranger in a Strange Land, Deja Vu, Moonchild, The Evil That Men Do, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, The Clairvoyant, Be Quick or Be Dead, Judas Be My Guide, Fear of the Dark, Sign of the Cross, Blood on the World's Hands, The Clansman, Dance of Death, The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg, For the Greater Good of God | Avagantamos
02.19.21 | seems like a missed opportunity to not say one of their albums is 6.66/10 | DavidYowi
02.19.21 | Cool list! Honestly I think Infinite Dreams is my favorite track on SSOASS | Dewinged
02.19.21 | "Those being Infinite Dreams and The Prophecy." My god...
Otherwise decent ranking. 8 being 8 is well... I guess a matter of taste, but for me Blaze era belongs in oblivion. | Titan
02.19.21 | I agree with 1 | evilford
02.19.21 | I still need to be checking some maiden but I remember children of the damned being a definite high point for me on tnotb | Titan
02.19.21 | Yes, and Infinite Dreams is probably my favorite on 7th Son | Spec
02.19.21 | children of the damned is one of my favourite maiden songs ever | SymbolicInTime
02.19.21 | Yeah I have whack ass opinions on some individual tracks from what I've heard lol | Spec
02.19.21 | it's not really ever listed as a classic track (at least from what i've seen) so w/e | Titan
02.19.21 | There's that Revelations sighting again.....smh Sym | ReturnToRock
02.19.21 | First of all, SAY WHAT about Lightning Strikes Twice, Revelations, Still Life, Infinite Dreams and Children of the Damned? Those are some of the best Maiden tracks!
Second of all, bet you never noticed how Rainmaker has four lines of lyrics at the beginning, and the rest of the song is literally just the chorus over and over. ...And now you can't un-hear it. The worst case of Steve Harris Syndrome this side of Sun and Steel. | SymbolicInTime
02.19.21 | Eh, I can definitely unhear that lol. I don't pay much mind to lyrics. As long as the surrounding instrumentation is engaging and the vocal melodies/their delivery are top notch, no complaints from me! | TheSpirit
02.19.21 | wtf charlotte the harlot is one of the best songs on s/t | Pikazilla
02.19.21 | Budgie is going to have a heart attack when he sees this | SymbolicInTime
02.19.21 | Oddly enough, I used to find it to be one of the better tracks on s/t, specifically when I first listened to it. I've given that record a lot of time since then and that track has soured on me exponentially, while the rest grew. It just makes me feel kind of icky lol
@pika man, I gave Killers so many more chances, trying to get it to click with me (managed to get one extra track to) but it mostly just reeks of b-side to me | rockarollacola
02.20.21 | 1 is 1, 2 is 2, and 6 is 16 | teamster
02.20.21 | Brave New World and Killers would be higher for me. Everything else is spot on, including number 1. | Meridiu5
02.20.21 | [2] | SymbolicInTime
02.20.21 | Cool we can agree on most haha. My preferences for these guys have really changed the more time I spend with them. For example, I always thought TXF was decent, but I would have probably placed it at 14 a year or two ago. And back then I would have probably placed s/t around 8.
At the end of the day, it's hard to go wrong with Maiden m/ | Titan
02.21.21 | Sym dude, Prodigal Son, The Thin Line, Revelations, Children Of The Damned, and Infinite Dreams are all among some of my top Maiden jams out of the 'duds' you mentioned
WTF bro | Sabrutin
02.21.21 | yeah Revelations is like my single most favorite IM song lol however 1 is 1 so DEATH SENTENCE: REMOVED, have a nice day | Titan
02.21.21 | 1 is 1 yessssss. But 4 is kinda 1 too.
Death sentence definitely removed but I have him on probation for life. | Titan
02.21.21 | And I agree that Alexander is my least favorite on the record. Still a top 30 Maiden song though. | zakalwe
02.21.21 | ‘Too many duds on here’
Nice one cloth ears | SymbolicInTime
02.22.21 | I will accept probation
You got me; ears are, in fact, made of cloth m/ | SymbolicInTime
02.22.21 | I think I might make a playlist of the Maiden songs I may not appreciate enough, to try to give em more time to potentially grow on me |
