10 2019 Albums Under 10 Votes

Some of my favorite albums from 2019 with less than 10 votes!
1Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

Potentially my AOTY, neck and neck with Copeland at the moment. Gothic pop/folk (think a combination of Regina Spektor and Chelsea Wolfe) that I can't get enough of. An encapsulation of genres paired with absolutely brilliant vocals and lyrics.
2Jenny Hval
The Practice of Love

Part spoken word testimonial, part electronic art piece, part folk. An album that's difficult to describe, but is a full experience.
3Mike Adams at His Honest Weight
There Is No Feeling Better

Really solid pop rock with catchy choruses. Adams sings with an earnestness that makes the whole album really relatable, but it never stops being an incredibly fun listen as well.
4Emily Scott Robinson
Traveling Mercies

Currently my country AOTY. It borders between the edges of country and folk perfectly. Robinson is able to write songs and tell stories about middle America in a way that only Craig Finn can replicate.
5Yola
Walk Through Fire

Another country AOTY contender. A mix of country, soul, and honky tonk, Yola has an incredible voice and incredibly welcome and fresh take on country music.
6Sarah McCoy
Blood Siren

Dark and sarcastic minimalist jazz with great and unique vocals (notice a theme?). Sarah McCoy tackles dark themes with some humor and a piano, plus some accoutrements.
7Low Dose
Low Dose

Pulsating punk with scathing vocals and a strong emphasis on bass and fuzzy guitars. Wouldn't sound out of place in the 90s grunge scene
8Yes We Mystic
Ten Seated Figures

Engrossing indie rock a la Coldplay and Arcade Fire (at least "Viva La Vida" Coldplay). Filled with an interesting instrumental pallet and memorable choruses, watch for these guys to make it big in the future.
9Mike Mains and The Branches
When We Were In Love

Yet another pop rock record with great vocals and strong choruses. There is surprisingly dark lyrical content here as well, with the album mainly discussing the hard marital troubles Mains had with his wife, who is also a member of the band and wrote the lyrics for closing track.
10Future Teens
Breakup Season

Wonder Years-lite with an emphasis on the "pop" instead of the "punk" and some great dual vocals. There's nothing necessarily special about this record, but it's a great "turn off your brain and have fun" listen.
