Dante's 2017

Top 10. It was a pretty good year for music, all things considered.
1Full of Hell
Trumpeting Ecstasy

It's becoming more and more clear that Full of Hell, in their purest form, are a grindcore band. While they try to experiment greatly with other sounds and collaborations, they're at their greatest when it's a focused brute-shot of chaos.
2Chelsea Wolfe
Hiss Spun

Not as good as Abyss, in my opinion, which made it difficult for this album to fully click. But it is still an incredible album on its own and it deservedly at no.2 for this year.
3Glassjaw
Material Control

A surprise flaming meteor landing right when you least expected. Instantly a top 5 AOTY and only growing.
4Converge
The Dusk in Us

It certainly seems like their sound is starting to curb down a little, but they've begun tooling it in a way that still sounds fresh and rejuvenated. Incredible for a band going on 20+ years.
5Ulsect
Ulsect

An excellent mix of modern and throwback DM.
6Falls of Rauros
Vigilance Perennial

Falls of Rauros finally find a middle ground on folky nature worship and dissonant Appalachian black metal. More bite than WITTR, less chaotic than Panopticon.
7The xx
I See You

It's refreshing to see that pop music can still be slick, cool, and artistic.
8Less Art
Strangled Light

Speaking of art, post-hardcore is alive and well.
9Julien Baker
Turn Out The Lights

Not quite the jump from debut to sophomore album that I was hoping for, but Julien Baker is quickly becoming the modern age David Bazan in his Pedro The Lion heyday.
10Knuckle Puck
Shapeshifter

Yes, the bands persona can be grating to most people, but Shapeshifter is a refreshing throwback to early 00s pop-punk, with a bit of a modern edge that most have come to associate Knuckle Puck with.
