Angry Screamo Ladies

I've really taken a liking to screamo after actually deciding to check it out last year, but there's something magical when skramz is mixed with a female vocalist. As my current favorite "genre", I've decided to be needlessly comprehensive and find as much of it as I can. No rank here, just alphabetical (except a few later additions) and something I rated 3.5 or higher. "Has dueling vocals" indicates a male vocalist. There's also quite a few non-binary and trans vocalists in the scene, so no shade and apologies, but I'm using the timbres consistent with female voices for qualifying for this list.
1Amygdala
Population Control

Really fucking pissed emoviolence leaning towards metal.
2Anomie
Discography

The first screamo album I ever listened to, thanks forgotten random internet guy. Very ahead of its time for 1997, and it's quite melodic and emotional. Vocalist is 16 and the drummer is 13, insanely talented kids. Underrated jewel of the genre.
3The Assistant
The Assistant

Has dueling vocals. Definitely an inconsistent album that has really technical stuff and then more straightforward emo sounding things, but there's good stuff here if you can get past clunky songwriting and flow.
4Bare Arms
Bare Arms

Obscure mathy EP with prominent bass melodies. Some champ in the youtube comments has a download link since this doesn't appear to exist anywhere else.
5Battle Of Wolf 359
The Death Of Affect

Has dueling vocals. Fuzzy and crust-y, but with enough of that extra emotion to still be skramz. Gotta agree with the RYM guy saying this sounds retro: would not peg this for a 2009 release at all.
6Blind Girls
Residue

Pick any of their albums, really, they're quite consistent and all 21 minutes of blistering chaotic emotion.
7Burial Etiquette
Mis-en-scène

Has dueling vocals. Fuzzy DIY styled production, nice and melancholic, and flows very nicely from harder and softer parts.
8Cady
Silence Will Not Protect You

Angry emotional skramz that leaves you wanting some more. Vocalist is a little nuts. Follow-up LP is better composed, but this vocalist either isn't in the band anymore or isn't on it :(
9Circle Takes the Square
As the Roots Undo

Has dueling vocals. Shouldn't really need any introduction unless you're weird like me and came into this entire genre sideways.
10Clay Birds
Bled Out and Painted Blue

Has dueling vocals. Starts out kind of manic and sloppy, but the last two tracks go more atmospheric and have really good build ups. Very promising debut.
11Crochet
Birth Piece

Has dueling vocals. Really frenetic energy and raw passion throughout with a lot of mathy licks and smoother midwest emo-styled passages. The song Ancient Roman Candle is absolutely nutso good.
12Crying for the Moon
1stDEMO

Ultra obscure release from perhaps the early 2010s? Bless whoever dug this back up. Japanese screamo with jazzy piano instead of guitar. Would have loved to hear more than two songs before they dropped off the face of the earth. Can someone rip off their sound and make an LP please? This totally would have been my shit if they ever did anything else.
13Daido Loori
Laika

Has dueling vocals. Short and a little sloppy, but a nice little slab of skramz.
14dana sterling
departure

Has dueling vocals. Would have liked to hear the chick try some more harshes, but this has tight musicianship. Some spoken word parts hold it back.
15Drei Affen
Seguimos Ciegxs

Has dueling vocals. Crusty Spanish skramz with a bleak atmosphere and really pissed off vocals.
16excrucis
There are Collectivities that Devour Souls

Sassy screamo that feels like it's about to let loose and go nuts but remains constrained with mid-tempo grooves.
17Febuary
February

Has dueling vocals. Silly song titles, but has that melancholic twinkly screamo sound I love done so well. They're definitely going to go places if they don't split up again.
18Foxtails
III

Mellower midwest emo sound, real solid stuff.
19Frail Hands
S / T

Fifteen minutes of very cleanly executed screamo that leaves me itching for more. Unfortunately the vocalist shot her voice and left the band, so the follow up loses some magic.
20Fuckmorgue
Down Forever

Skramz with a really interesting mix of gothic and black metal laden throughout. So of course the atmosphere is very strong. Slaps.
21Gauge Means Nothing
The Absent Trail of an Echo...

Has dueling vocals. Moody longer-form Japanese screamo with mainly male vocals, but there is a female one that comes in from time to time, mainly with some sugary J-Pop sounding stuff but she does do a few screams (mainly on Right Hand). Production's sloppy, the male cleans are kinda bad, but boy does this ooze passion.
22Gossip (US)
Coals of Juniper

Has dueling vocals. Very solid skramz with the right mix of anger and sorrow. Looking forward to seeing where they go from here.
23Grimlitter
Follicle

Has dueling vocals. Metal-tinged screamo made by some very talented kids. They better not disband before releasing a full length.
24Habak
Ningún Muro Consiguió Jamás Contener la Primav

Mexican crusty skramz (perhaps more crust than screamo) with a lot of post-whatever atmosphere.
25The Hareste
The Hareste

Has dueling vocals. Short and sweet mathy emoviolence done by some talented high school kids.
26Haz Lo Correcto
Fata Morgana

Short and sweet with a juicy bass tone. Grooves pretty good, hopefully they can cook up a full length.
27Heart on My Sleeve
In The Midst of Hope and Nothingness

Don't know why this is rated so lowly, probably filtered by the vocals. They're hoarse and sound like she's been crying for hours. They're not the most exciting sounding thing but if that isn't emo as hell I don't know what to tell you. Music is glittery post-hardcorey melodic nice stuff.
28Heavenly Blue
We Have The Answer

Has dueling vocals. Very solid slab of dynamic screamo; hopefully they can tighten things up for a future follow-up.
29Hiretsukan
End States

Has dueling vocals. Really solid stuff with nice shrieking vocals.
30i hate sex
Circle Thinking

Twinkly midwest emo sounding skramz with a howling banshee.
31I Spoke
Autobiography

Mostly decent chill sad jams crescendoing into some angry parts.
32IKIRU
IKIRU

Czech group offering a nice short and solid slab of screamo.
33In Loving Memory...
A Discography

Has dueling vocals. Nice melancholic noodling but the vocals are definitely extra and may take some getting used to (think Jeromes Dream).
34Indisposed
Steadfast

Vocals are a little low in the mix, but the instrumentation is really tight with just the right mix of twinkliness and sad in the riffs. The Attestments EP is also really good.
35Journal (USA-AZ)
Journal

Emoviolence with a dash of midwest emo and a vocalist that rips and really sounds in pain. Formerly known as Cenöbite, check out With Arms Crossed... if you want more.
36La Luna
Always Already

A good little blend of all the various styles of skramz.
37Lord Snow
Solitude

Top notch technical screamo with crazy drumming.
38Love Spiral
Demo 2023

Lo-fi with a slight metal taste. They better not clean up the production for future releases.
39Mahria
Analemma

Excellent skramz with the right touch of mathy chaos and posty vibes. Their self-titled EP is also good stuff.
40Mouthing
Mouthing

Wild, short, and solid emoviolence. The vocalist is insane; one of the best in the game.
41Nuvolascura
Nuvolascura

Chaotic, technical, and oozing passion. Vocalist is also one of the genre's best.
42O' God the White Whale
Never Knows Best

Technically has dueling vocals. I guess one of the advantages of being transfem is if you put in the effort you can do both. Solid skramz with the right blend of angry and twinkly.
43Piri Reis
Ritma

Malaysian group definitely inspired by Orchid, but less chaotic. That void of chaos is injected with more passion. One of the genre's best and the vocalist is really good.
44Ravachol
Great Moments in the Void

Cleaner melodic jams, really solid stuff that makes you yearn for a full LP, but alas.
45Rayleigh
If History

Has dueling vocals... but they only chip in for a verse here and there. Atmospheric emotional brooding mellow skramz.
46Reika
Frangenti

The only all-female band on this list, and from Italy no less. Moody mid-tempo grooves with a light dusting of midwest emo.
47Roman Candle (USA-NV)
Discount Fireworks

Very solid stuff, wish it was longer. Vocalist kicks ass.
48Silk (USA-NY)
A Fenestrated Fantasy

Fairly unique kittencore vocals, with raspy but tender growls and siren-esque highs that honestly sound like if a teenage girl did Silencer (because these do look like youngsters for sure). Instrumentation's pretty tight if you can adjust to the shrieks, with both brooding build-ups and heavier releases.
49sowithout.
septemberthirteenthtwentynineteen.

Raw and very lo-fi with the right blend of angry and sad. Could really use some more tracks from them.
50Suffix
No Matter How Fast We Run

Has dueling vocals. Oodles of lovely melodic guitar work here.
51Svalbard
When I Die, Will I Get Better?

Has dueling vocals. One of the premier examples of a recent trend of mixing blackgaze with skramz, which I'm all for.
52Vales
Wilt And Rise

Passionate emotional screamo flirting with a melodic hardcore sound.
53Weak Wrists
Weak Wrists

Has dueling vocals. Sounds like it'd be a solid chunk of emoviolence, but it has quite a few nice transitions into softer emo-y parts.
54Welcome the Plague Year
Welcome the Plague Year

Has dueling vocals. A very solid moody album with plenty of post-rock influence.
55The Hope and the Failure
The Lights Are on But This Dance Never Ends

Super depressive and atmospheric, vocalist sounds like she's crying. Ah, she's the Heart on My Sleeve vocalist, that makes a lot of sense. Not a fan of the spoken word parts but this is good stuff.
56NHOMME
種の過音

Very technical mathy screamo. Drummer is nuts. If they showed off less with morse code riffs and tightened things up in a follow up they'll be a force to be reckoned with.
