3Omar Rodriguez-Lopez
Nom De Guerre Cabal

I'm gonna lump the 12 albums Omar put out this year into my #3 spot.
The first 12 albums in the Ipecac series are of mixed quality, as is all of Omars solo output, but the batting average this year was really high. These albums cover such a huge stylistic range, from Volta demos that never were (Aranas en la Sombra) to left-field vintage pop gems (Corazones/Umbrella Mistress) to insane future punk (Nom De Guerre Cabal), that the occasional dud (looking at you, Infinity Drips) does little to diminish this incredibly diverse, accomplished series. It's been an incredible year for die hard ORL fans, and with 12 more albums coming in 2017, the ride is only half over. What a time to be alive.

I love ISIS as much as anyone, but this is the best thing Turner has ever done. Composition, performance, production, it's all incredible. Cannot wait to see what comes next.
