Best 2019 Metal (so far)

This year is definitely picking up where last year left off -- metal is still thriving BABY.
1Panopticon
The Crescendo of Dusk

Even throwaway Panopticon tracks rule.
2Vanum
Ageless Fire

I'm not sure what role he plays in this project (though, to be honest it is a pretty idiosyncratic with the rest of his work, so hell, he may have composed it all) but anything with M. Rekevics is almost guaranteed to rule.
3Cara Neir
Part III / Part IV

My boys in Cara Neir have done it again. It is astounding how consistent these boys are. Check out Hawks' great review of this to learn some more about it!
4Ossuarium
Living Tomb

Gloomy and doomy death metal with a catacombic atmosphere and resonant gothic beauty.
5Saor
Forgotten Paths

Andy Marshall continues to develop Saor and reap the benefits of his commitment to this project. Celtic black metal has been a thing for decades but never has it sounded so defined and perfected as it does here.
6Kaleikr
Heart of Lead

Iceland over the last decade has proven itself a wonderful breeding ground for particularly interesting black/death blends, and Kaleikr is no exception. Great melding of primitive and progressive tendencies.
7Caustic Vomit
Festering Odes to Deformity

Rotten death/doom with a putrid production.
8Blue Hummingbird On The Left
Atl Tlachinolli

The Black Twilight Circle's flame was sputtering for a quite a few years, but with two releases last year, and this album now, hopefully they get back on track. Blue Hummingbird On The Left has come a long way from their flute-wielding origins, and are now a full-fledged war metal behemoth. The reverbed vocals are a bit obnoxious, but the power of the music remains.
9Warmoon Lord
Burning Banners of the Funereal War

A fine example of not melodic black metal, but black metal that's melodic. Check out Hawks' review.
10Pulchra Morte
Divina Autem et Aniles

Evoking the morbid grandiosity of the "The Peaceville Three" (Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride) Pulchra Morte's debut album Divina Autem et Aniles hearkens back to the gothic death/doom sound of the early 90's British metal scene, uniting melody and chaos in an unholy matrimony.
