03.26.12 | The criteria basically goes like this:
1.) Are you a standout writer who can competently present an opinion/defend it?
2.) Do you review at a consistent rate?
3.) Do you cover new material? (the site doesn't get any hits for led zeppelin discog reviews, even though they're awesome)
4.) How does the community see you? Are you an asshole that nobody likes, or do people generally respect what you say? Do you know what you're talking about regarding music, or do you come across as a monkey with a keyboard?
5.) What else do you bring to the table? Do you add a lot of bands and albums to the database? Do you review a genre that very few others do? Are you an active news contributor?
The rest just comes down to luck. If you do the above things, you'll most likely get noticed but keep in mind there's a lot of great reviewers on the site. Just because you don't get picked doesn't mean that you aren't contrib quality, and you may in fact get it later on in the future. The key is to not give up. |

I think I'm the furthest thing from cocky, I've just been around here for awhile and it would be nice to promoted, especially after contributing 93 reviews to the site (so far).

1) I would say that I'm pretty good, I don't want to be "COCKY" but it generally seems as if my reviews are well recieved and from what I can tell from other users, they seem to be of high quality.
2) I used to review a lot more but I stopped for awhile. Been writing and posting a lot more though and will continue to.
3) Yes I cover new material
4) I seemed to fairly well liked, I can't think of anyone that doesn't like me and I get along with mostly everyone. I definitely know what I'm talking about when it comes to the music I post about or comment on .
5) I don't contribute much news but I have added a shit ton of bands/albums. I review a lot of underground releases so I guess that would separate me from the pack somewhat. I would agree that there are a ton of great reviewers on the site and I definitely think there are a lot better than me but I think I could still be contrib material. |

03.28.12 | I'm not MX or Willie or anything, but I'm pretty sure those are accurate guidelines. Obviously it's not perfect, but I'm just trying to give you a general idea. Contribute high quality reviews of new releases consistently, get promoted. That's how it's always worked.
For staff, they already know what you contribute and how often, so then I'd assume it comes down to your quality and attention to detail, along with what you bring to the table in terms of ideas...example: creating a user-staff joined playlist for every quarter of the year ;) |
