Slashs May 2017
It's that time again. I'm not feeling too good. |
1 | | Ryuichi Sakamoto Async
Sakamoto-Core// Come on, as if I wouldn't like this. //4/5 |
2 | | Buck 65 Weirdo Magnet
Canadian-Basement-Hop// Really off-kilter and homegrown project by one half of the Sebutones. His bragging is kinda izarre in its own right, but what really confuses me are his sex-songs. He sounds like Gollum on these and it's really not helping. Still, a recommendation for everyone with a fondness for obscure indie-hip-hop. //3,5/5 |
3 | | Buck 65 Language Arts
Can-Base-H// Definitely more accessible and less confusing as WM, but I can't rock with his inflection at some points. Still, this is a definite improvement from its predecessor. Also, this came out in the 90s, Sput has the release year on this one messed up. //4/5 |
4 | | Cashmere Cat 9
Pop// Very cute and very inoffensive. The lows are really low, though. //4/5 |
5 | | Russ There's Really a Wolf
"Hip-Hop"// Nah. Cherry Hill is kinda dec, tho. //1,5/5 |
6 | | Logic Everybody
Hip-Hop// Not gonna engage in the jokes here, this is just a very awkwardly structured and badly executed album with ideas that could have been portrayed so much better. It's also really tone-deaf, which is a definite turn-off for me. The instrumentals and his flows are very, very strong though, even bordering on being *gasp* original sometimes. If anything, this just really disappointed me. //2,5/5 |
7 | | Joey Badass ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$
Hip-Hop// Yeah, this is smooth as hell. I love it. Finally a project of his I can enjoy front to back. //4,5/5 |
8 | | G Perico Shit Don't Stop
Crip-Hop// One of the best mixtapes of 2016. About as street as you can get. //4,5/5 |
9 | | G Perico All Blue
Crip-Hop// More focused and better structured than the mixtape from last year, but sadly misses the mark when it comes to truly memorable moments. All in all a very solid debut album, though. His social commentary is absolutely on point on this. //4/5 |
10 | | Lil Yachty Teenage Emotions
Happy-Hop// Yeaaaaaah, wellllllll, the pop songs on here are really likable, the rest is trash. I'll keep Better, Bring It Back and Lady in Red and I'll be fine. //2/5 |
11 | | Sensational Corner The Market
???-Hop// Simultaneously the best and worst thing I have ever heard. These beats, these flows, these bars are...certainly something. WordSound was a special label for sure. I'm leaning more on the positive side. //???/5 |
12 | | sweat shop lsd Dead Soul Collage
Beattape// The drum programming and the choice of samples are very crisp on this thing. The chopping of said samples is...sadly very amateurish. Ehhhhhh. //2,5/5 |
13 | | XXXTENTACION Revenge
X-Hop// Idunno, shits kinda solid, but kinda trash. I have no real opinion on this thing, I would like to hear some of his more introspective side, though. His energy is kinda good sometimes as well. //2,5/5 |
14 | | David Banner Mississippi: The Album
MISSISSIPPI// HELL YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. This shit is so manly, even I feel kinda buff after listening to this. //5/5 ALL DAY |
15 | | David Banner The God Box
...// I...I don't think I'm the intended audience for this one. Has a lot of power, and a lot of populism, but the precision seems lacking in some points. Also, some beats are really unbearable on here. Still, this is arguably Davids best performance behind the microphone. Ever. //3,5/5 |
16 | | Crooked Lettaz Grey Skies
Dirty-South// 90s classic out of Mississippi with, surprise, David Banner. One of my favourite albums ever. //5/5 ALL DAY |
17 | | Lowdown Da Sinista Coming For Your Soul
Memphis-Rap// My favourite hip-hop album of all time. Fight me. RIP Lowdown. //10/5 ALL UNIVERSE |
18 | | Mixed Blood Majority Mixed Blood Majority
Indie-Hop// Still distressingly just alright. //3/5 |
19 | | Curtis Mayfield Curtis
Soul// MOVE ON UP TO YOUR DESTINATION, THOUGH YOU MIGHT FIND, FROM TIME TO TIME, COMPLICATIONS. //5/5 ALL DAY |
20 | | MC Lyte Bad As I Wanna B
Fem-Hop// Where she started falling off. Still, this has some of the best tracks of her career, and possibly her best singles. 2 Seater is my JAM. //3,5/5 |
21 | | Melvins Houdini
Sludge-Grunge// Yup. Still kicks ass. //4,5/5 |
22 | | Metallica Ride the Lightning
Metallica// Metallica. //Metallica/Metallica |
23 | | Metallica Master of Puppets
METALLICAMETALLICAMETALLICA// MET//ALL/ICA |
24 | | The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Let's Face It
Ska-Punk// Very amazing and very politically interesting from one of Ska-Punks finest acts ever. And this might not even be my favourite album of theirs. //5/5 ALL DAY |
25 | | Mika Life in Cartoon Motion
Pop// The sound of my childhood. Still very refreshing, has aged way better than I thought it could. //4/5 |
26 | | Missy Elliott Supa Dupa Fly
MisSY// Yup. //5/5 ALL DAY |
27 | | Missy Elliott Da Real World
MISSEY// Eeyup, you guessed right. //5/5 ALL DAY |
28 | | Missy Elliott Miss E… So Addictive
MISDEMEANOR// I'm a huuuuuuge fanboy. //4/5 |
29 | | Missy Elliott Under Construction
ELLIOTT// Come fight me. //4,5/5 |
30 | | Monster Magnet Dopes to Infinity
Stoner-Metal// Also still kicks a lot of ass. //4,5/5 |
31 | | Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill
Pop-Rock// Isn't it ironic that (insert dead joke here) //4/5 |
32 | | The Mothers of Invention Freak Out!
Zappa-Core// All has been said about this that can be. //5/5 ALL DAY |
33 | | Motorpsycho Lobotomizer
Heavy-Metal// Their debut album, and honestly kinda just okay. The songwriting goes kinda nowhere and the lyrics are...there, I guess. From the riffs and atmosphere alone, though, this is still one of the most harrowing things they have ever recorded just rivaled by the pure darkness of Demon Box, the emotional pressure of the second disc of Timothy's Monster and... //3/5 |
34 | | Motorpsycho Mountain EP
Alternative-Metal// ...the Mountain EP, with its pummeling riffs, frantic, paranoid screaming and dread-inducing synth-effects. //4/5 |
35 | | Motorpsycho Another Ugly EP
Alternative-Rock// Really off-kilter and weird stuff from the boys, with puzzling songwriting and weird instrumental/production choices. One of their most original recordings from their early days no doubt. //4/5 |
