If you're referring to the devstep lists I'm not promoting anything, you need to realise this. I'm just listing releases for that month. Do you want me to call these "shit" artists up and tell them not to release anything? Because I think I'll just leave it how it is and let others decide if they like it or not |
twlight
09.21.11 | ^ gracias! that is why it should be featured ASAP
Clac- never heard the term, but i guess it could accurately discribe the different sound.
Personally i don't think the genre of Dubstep has been around long enough or is definable enough to have a Post-Genre of it |

09.21.11 | somebody steps out of ambiguous conventions of a genre with wide influences
call them post- |
twlight
09.21.11 | yeah Electronic music is already confusing enough when being split into subgenres, do we really need
another one? Yet on a side note i do feel that whomp/hard hitting dubstep like Skrillex, Excision,
Bassnectar, Flux Pavillion, Mimosa etc should be labeled something different than the more
atmospheric/less intense dubstep like burial Clubroot etc. "Whomp" style dubstep should be the one
called post-dubstep, because it was formed from the less intense dubstep that originated in Europe. |
Polymath
09.21.11 | Yeah good idea let's call it Brostep. |

09.21.11 | dude of course, fuck my post-dubstep theory |

I get where you're coming from but they're just two sides of the same coin. Remember that the genre is a hybrid, some artists focus on one style and some on the other. It's the same as having Converge and As I Lay Dying both listed as metalcore; one focuses more on the metal side of things (as ambiguous as the term metal is) and the other is much more hardcore based |
twlight
09.21.11 | ^ Very well said, that does make a lot of sense |
Deviant.
09.21.11 | So you've got your artists who sit more on the step side of things (2-step, as in garage) like Burial etc, and others who focus more on the trademark bass of dub. Some do a mix of both, and then some have since emerged who have bought that ever present bass right to the forefront and made tunes based strictly on whatever rhythym they can create out of a bass wobble
The whole "post dubstep" (obligatory lol) scene is just a bunch of dubstep artists who have just bought in more influences, like r&b and house music |
twlight
09.21.11 | Most Americans hear the word dubstep and think of artists that use the "trademark bass of dub", the step side of things is definitely not as popular here, sadly.
so James Blake's obvious rnb influence makes some label him as "post-dubstep", gotcha. |

Well what do you expect? Aside from a few artists like Bar9 or Flux you could almost credit the likes of Excision and Datsik with popularizing that particular strand of dubstep |
twlight
09.21.11 | Yeah and it's so painfully average most the time, although the style does translate a little better live, These artists are selling out massive venues, I've been to a few of them. |
twlight
09.22.11 | good discussions! |
Deviant.
09.22.11 | "so James Blake's obvious rnb influence makes some label him as "post-dubstep", gotcha."
It's not just his r&b (which didn't really emerge properly until his lp) but just that fact that he's approaching the genre in a slightly different way. Doesn't make it something new, just more of a leftfield entry so to speak |
twlight
09.22.11 | He definitely has created something brand new with his self titled, that's what makes it such a superb album |
