05.07.11 | Modest Mouse needs to release new music soon. I don't have enough by them. I think I might be a tad obsessed. |
WithHorsesInHerEyes
05.07.11 | I pretty much agree with this. |
NateT
05.07.11 | 7 8 & 9 are all interchangeable, I just put No One's First above the rest because the Whale Song is epic and King Rat is also one of my favorite songs by them. |
Alxander18
05.07.11 | Switch 6 and 5 around and this is golden. |
NateT
05.07.11 | That one was also hard. I could easily see the list with 5 & 6 switched. I put 5 ahead of 6 because although there were more really strong songs on 6, 5 was a much more cohesive album. Might change over time though, who knows? |
tom79
05.07.11 | This is about right. I'd have 8 over 7 and 6 tho. You're the good things, here it comes, night on the sun are so good. |
demigod!
05.07.11 | Lonesome Crowded West (1), Long Drive (2), Moon and Antarctica (3), Building Something out of nothing (4), the rest |
Alxander18
05.07.11 | Moon & Antarctica will always be their best. Always. |
demigod!
05.07.11 | nope |
Alxander18
05.07.11 | welp, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Actually, Lonesome is the only one I haven't heard, but I just can't imagine it being better. |
NateT
05.07.11 | Alxander listen to LCW. I've said this before, but LCW is hands down the best road trip album ever. Its much angrier than M&A though, but if you're in the mood for its almost unbeatable. The main reason I have M&A ahead of LCW is because it is an amazing album regardless of mood. But if I'm in the mood for LCW it might just have the edge on M&A. |
NateT
05.07.11 | Also might take a few listens to get into, but it's worth it. |
savagecabbage
05.07.11 | you probably already know about Ugly Casanova, but if not you should listen to Sharpen Your Teeth sometime soon. Other than that, list is complete horse shit. Modest Mouse is cool. 3 will always be my favorite. |
Alxander18
05.07.11 | I already planned on listening to it tonight haha, been on a huge MM tear in between not listening to Simple Math. |
NateT
05.07.11 | Love Ugly Casanova.
And is Simple Math as good as the hype? |
demigod!
05.07.11 | Alxander18, I HIGHLY recomend listening to LCW. It's a fucking masterpiece. One of my favourite albums ever. |
demigod!
05.07.11 | and I've never listened to Ugly Casanova. how does it compare to Modest Mouse? I'm a huge MM fan |
patroneyes
05.07.11 | 4 needs to be hiiiiigheeeeerrrrrrrr |
Alxander18
05.07.11 | Listening to LCW tonight. And, Simple Math is one of the best albums I've ever heard, opinions on it to tend to vary. I 5'ed it, and no matter how relentlessly non-stop I listen to it, it blows me away every time. I think you'll especially like it, It has a lot of MM influence. |
NateT
05.07.11 | Alright I'll give it a spin, never listened to Manchester Orchestra.
Ugly Casanova is exactly what you would expect from an Isaac Brock solo album. It's pretty different from typical Modest Mouse instrumentals, but the vocals are just as good, if not better. Listen to it, if you like Brock's vocals, you'll like it. Other than a few weak songs, the album is solid, but not quite spectacular. If it were on this list I'd probably put it between 8 and 9. |

05.07.11 | @ Nate T: Thank you for the list, and thank you for the impeccable ranking. Great list, my friend.
@demigod93: If you love Modest Mouse, you will, at the very least, enjoy Ugly Cassanova. Some of Isaac's best songs he's ever written are contained on "Sharpen Your Teeth." See: "Barnacles," "Cat Faces," "Things I Don't Remember," and, last, but best, "Hotcha Girls."
@Alxander18: What do you think of "Lonesome Crowded West" thus far? It's a long, strange, but, ultimately worthwile, journey. Hope you are loving it! |

05.07.11 | I might make one or two flip flops but this is pretty much right. |
NateT
05.07.11 | Thanks Patrick. Glad you agree haha
|
NateT
05.07.11 | Thanks to you too Andcas haha |
Aids
05.07.11 | seeing them live in 3 weeks hell yessssss. I've only heard 1 and 5 though, I guess I should change that. |
patrickfannon
05.07.11 | Aids, definitely try "Lonesome Crowded West," "Building Nothing Out of Something," and "Everywhere And His Nasty Parlour Tricks." Where are you seeing them, by the way? Severely curious. I had no idea they were touring! |
Aids
05.07.11 | Sasquatch 2011, near Seattle. It's an epic outdoor music festival in one of the most beautiful settings I've ever seen. It's usually 3 days but this is the 10 year anniversary so it's 4 this year (swag)
may 27-30, 2011, going to be un-fucking-believable epic |
NateT
05.07.11 | I saw that line-up. Then I saw it was sold out. I cried. |
Aids
05.07.11 | I have a ticket for sale if you can get your shit together in time
(well, it's not mine to sell but there aren't any buyers yet so I could probably get it for you) |
NateT
05.07.11 | Thanks, I would but I saw it was sold out a while ago so I already have something planned for that weekend. |
ZoidbergQuestion
05.07.11 | switch 3 and 1 and i agree. also, 9 should be higher. definitely my favorite band. |
NateT
05.07.11 | Yeah I struggled with putting TFTAI at 9, because I really love that album, but when I compared it to other albums or EP's I just couldn't justify it as the better one. |
ZoidbergQuestion
05.07.11 | i can see where you're coming from; karma's payment is so good, though. |
NateT
05.07.11 | Yeah so is Dirty Fingernails. Modest Mouse is easily my favorite band as well, so this wasn't easy to do haha |
NateT
05.07.11 | eh, that never bugs me too much. I don't care how popular an album gets as long as its still good music haha |
NateT
05.07.11 | That's what happened to me haha |
NateT
05.07.11 | Well just finished Simple Math. That was seriously epic. Its a 4 for me now, but I could see that growing. Will need to listen to it some more. |
patrickfannon
05.08.11 | I wanna' see the Sasquatch too, now. Sounds fucking amazing. Have a great time, AIDSy. Stay warm and enjoy the Mouse. |
patrickfannon
05.08.11 | Oh, and Nate, Simple Math is ridiculous. I listened to it over the weekend and was blown away. Probably at a 4 as well, but this one sort of feels like a creeper. Could be a 4.5 with 10 or 15 listens. |
NateT
05.08.11 | It jumped to a 4.5 after the third or fourth listen. Simply an amazing album. Does anyone know if their older stuff is worth checking out? |
patrickfannon
05.08.11 | I really dug 2009's "Mean Everything To Nothing" and 2007's "Like A Virgin Losing A Child." I haven't listened to much of their early stuff in depth, but I've liked pretty much everything I've heard from them. Definitely check out "Mean Everything To Nothing," though, if you enjoy "Simple Math" this much. |
