Stuff I Liked: 2015 Edition
See what the list is called for further details. |
11 | | Angelus Apatrida Hidden Evolution
Somewhat generic, not entirely memorable, but entertaining and varied enough to keep a hold on you throughout. Only needs one listen to get a feel for it, but it brings the riffs pretty hard. The only major issue is that others bring them harder. |
10 | | Black Fast Terms of Surrender
A strong album with strong riffs and overall would be great, it unfortunately feels a bit too long for its own good. Maybe could have been bumped a few ranks if it had been trimmed down, but it's still worth listening to. |
9 | | Global Chernobyl Endtime
This was an interesting one. I personally preferred the instrumental tracks, there was something I couldn't quite stomach about the vocals, but it's not enough to ruin the experience, which is overall quite solid. |
8 | | Reign of Fury Death Be Thy Shepherd
This didn't stick to me as well as I thought it did. Nevertheless, it's still a decently strong outing, and is strangely catchy, an attribute not commonly associated with the thrash metal genre. Choruses are once again the group's strength, and you'll likely have at least one stuck in your head at some point. |
7 | | Bio-Cancer Tormenting The Innocent
A strong improvement upon Ear Piercing Thrash. Greater variety and drawing power leads to a stronger album overall. Not much else to say. |
6 | | Battlecross Rise to Power
I could never understand the infatuation with Sylosis when Battlecross exists. It nails everything Sylosis attempts, and from my perspective, does it far more effectively. Highly recommended for those that do like Sylosis, and also for those who want to but can't, which is the group I fall into. |
5 | | Dr. Living Dead Crush the Sublime Gods
It's hard to come up with a solid explanation for why albums like this are good. It just does what it wants to do well enough, that being just straight-up thrashin', that I have to recommend it. |
4 | | Iron Maiden The Book of Souls
Another strong outing from Maiden. About what is to be expected, and though I personally think it feels a tad bloated in length, that's to be expected with a double album, and it doesn't really affect the overall experience significantly enough to bring it down. |
3 | | Speedtrap Straight Shooter
This is the album that Where Evil Dwells should have been. Just a no-frills, speed metal trip. Strong all around. |
2 | | Exarsis The Human Project
Riffs are as strong as ever, and while the group still can't figure out how to have a competent vocalist, it works here more than it did in previous releases, and is overall not a significant drag on the album. |
1 | | Fog of War Here Lies Humanity
My album of the year. Lives up to the predecessor, and was well worth the six year wait. Every strength is back, and there's not really any glaring flaws, apart from maybe that weird intro nonsense on the title track. |
