02.02.17 | SM57 is your wisest choice my man. |
onionbubs
02.02.17 | Yeah since they're normally like 100 bucks and your budget is 70 I'd really just advise saving up the extra money |
BigBlob
02.02.17 | they are about £90-£100 here in the UK. thats almost double my budget, but if they really are worth it.... |

02.02.17 | You will die out of age and that mic will be used by your grandchildren to record their last album before retirement. That's how good that mic is. |
BigBlob
02.02.17 | shit thats pretty m/ |
ScuroFantasma
02.02.17 | Haha |
bloc
02.02.17 | Yeah wait some more and get the SM57. |
BigBlob
02.02.17 | on comparison vids I always thought the SM58 sounded a bit better. even though its more a vocal mic |
Dewinged
02.02.17 | In the end there are no rules man, I have recorded a whole set of drums with only 1 shure and it was pretty neat. Just what the records say. 58 for voices, 57 for anything else. |
GmemberKills
02.02.17 | sm57 without a doubt
Just look on ebay and try and find a deal on one used, they are built like a tank and guaranteed to last pretty much forever |

Ola Englund compares the two side by side. He uses the SM58 for a lot of his recordings.

02.02.17 | Now that I think about it, it's better to save up for a Neve console and go straight into the board. |
BigBlob
02.03.17 | managed to find a second hand Neve console for £89,000. Should I go for it? |
bloc
02.03.17 | Do it man. With the Canadian dollar being so weak do it! It'll just get weaker! |
SteveOffProbation
02.03.17 | sm57 [263849405]
anything lower in price will most definitely not be worth it |
SteveOffProbation
02.03.17 | and then sm58s sound even better, so id go for that. I got one and it's class. |
BigBlob
02.03.17 | aye thinking of getting a second hand SM58... every vid I've seen of them compared to the 57 the just sound that wee bit better |
GmemberKills
02.03.17 | well both are great mics. I've always heard the SM58 was a tiny bit better for vocals, while the SM57 was a little better for guitars/drums/instruments.
You could record a nice sounding album with either one though |
bloc
02.03.17 | True, in this day and age I think hardware gear is starting to mean less and less. You can make anything sound like a million bucks now. |
BigBlob
02.14.17 | just picked up an sm58 from my local music shop. woop woopppp |
