Sxsw 2013 In Review
This year I went down to South By Southwest in Austin, Texas. Here are my favorites from this year. Each are broken down into categories, and the list itself are bands I saw while down. |
1 | | The Dear Hunter Act III: Life and Death
Best Venue: Red 7 Patio. The atmosphere was very small and cozy, and also happened to have the greatest sound once inside. (Except for the Austin City Music Hall, but come on...) It had an inside room, and an outside patio. The one downside were the disgusting restrooms. |
2 | | Royal Thunder CVI
Best Band: The greatest performance was from a band I had never heard of before. The guitar was very interesting and bluesy, and the vocalist/bassist reminded me of a mix between Janice Joplin and Joan Jet. She had huge hands |
3 | | Soul Khan Soul Like Khan
Best Food: The greatest food for me came in the form of a restaurant named Taco Deli. The street tacos were incredibly tasty, and reasonably priced. Plus they carried ginger beer, and who doesn't like ginger beer. |
4 | | Inter Arma Sundown
Best Super Market: This might seem like a really stupid category, but gosh darn was Whole Foods cool. Not only was it the largest Whole Foods, but it also has their corporate headquarters on top of it. My friends and I split a couple types of cheese, and some ginger beer. Also they had a free concert on their roof. |
5 | | Skeleton Coast Skeleton Coast
Best Coffee: Houndstooth Coffee. The place had a great cappuccino, which they drew a heart into with cream. Runner Up: Charlie Hates Coffee coffee truck outside the Mohawk Outdoor venue. I must have had 4 iced coffees from that place. |
6 | | Kosha Dillz Beverly Dillz
Easiest 21+ to get into: Townhouse. Honestly, we walked in past the security at the door. It was that easy, and we were offered drinks the entire night. |
7 | | Cold War Kids Loyalty to Loyalty
Worst Band: Cold War Kids. I have never been at a concert where literally everyone in my group was counting the minutes until a band finished (In this instance that was 60). Cold War Kids were uninspiring, bland, and played the most boring songs off their albums that they could have. Sadly,I really was expecting more |
