Arche's sick January

I was sick for most of it. Fucking sucks. Anyway, here's some cool (or at least okay) stuff I managed to check out over it, when I could be bothered. Recs as always are greatly appreciated ^ ^
1Dumal
The Lesser God

Some really neat black metal, with a nice little synth interlude for good measure. Goes like stink, plenty of oldschool influence and the vocals are (typically) great. 4/5

2Lord of the Isles
Parabolas Of Neon

Ambient house from Scotland. Tbh, after opener Sunrise 89 blew me away I really hoped this would be awesome, but the middle block of the album just kinda... goes by. I get that its more the ambient side of things coming in, but the feeling of it just did nowt for me. The title track's fantastic though. 3/5.

3Information Flash
Ego Murda Sound

Jungle-y, techno-y, outsider house (whatever the fuck that is) gloriousness from France. Despite being an hour long, this holds my attention from start-to-finish, by refusing to play the same tricks too close to one another. Really good fun.

4Worthless Life
Conscious in Coma

Quite nice depressive BM with equally nice album art. Slightly messy I guess, but I'd be complaining more if it was super clean, and it doesn't come across as being all that hammy. 3.5/5, will possibly grow.

5The Drowned God
Moonbearer

I've been excited for this one for a good while now, and for the most part it didn't disappoint. They took the peculiar chord voicings and circular songwriting found on their EP, and built on it, making a great emotional hardcore release that stays just outside the norm enough to be interesting. I have to be in the mood for the vox, but when it's right, it's awesome. 4/5

6Litku Klemetti
Juna Kainuuseen

A vaguely endearing piece of 60s/70s psych-twee pop worship, Juna Kainuuseen is nothing if not convincing in its efforts to sound dated. If you're familiar with the works of groups such as The New Seekers, The Carpenters, Blue Mink and the like, then you've already got a decent idea of how this sounds. Not a bad way of spending 30 minutes, but there's also much, much better. 3/5.

7All My Sins
Lunar / Solar

A qualitatively interesting black metal EP from Serbians All My Sins, it kinda reminds me of a slightly cleaner, slightly folkier Havulinnaan (by Havukruunu) in its approach. Kinda wish there was more, but hey, it's an EP. 3.5/5

Raise Your Head and Smell the Air

Excellent ambient/IDM-y stuff that's serene yet also really interesting. Perfect for lounging to. 4/5

Yesterday's Gone

Some nice and honest sounding UK rap, with some great soul elements thrown in for good measure. Can't actually think of a lot wrong with it, just a really great listen. 4/5

Remnants...

No bullshit OSDM that focusses more on them riffs than trying to make anything world-changing. I'll be damned if I don't have fun listening to it though. 3.5/5

11Anal Trump
To All the Broads I've Nailed Before

Was it funny? No. Did I have fun listening to it? Hell yeah. Looking past the topic, this is a pretty neat little shot of grinding. 3/5.

12Not Waving
Populist

Ehhh... with perhaps a hint of irony placing this after Anal Trump, the edginess used here kinda rubbed me the wrong way, and detracted from a fairly enjoyable experimental electronic release. As a result it'll probably grow on me, should I decide to return to it any more. 2.5/5

13Hayden Who
Gestalt

Eh... [2] I want to like this IDM/footwork/ambient thing more than I perhaps do, because there are runs of tracks on here (like Gestalt - Somersault) are actually pretty damn enjoyable. However, there's a few synths used on here which are just annoying and a few dynamic jumps which are even more annoying, and they kinda bring it down. Unlike Not Waving, I'm not sure if this will grow on me, but we'll see. 2.5/5

14Analepsy
Atrocities from Beyond

I'm not particularly hard to please when it comes to BDM/Slam, but Analepsy's newest is particularly good fun. Mixes technicality and brain-mushing chugs pretty well, and I can get behind that. 4/5.
