| 50th Anniversary of King Crimson
King Crimson arguably founded progressive rock, and it's amazing that they are still together after 50 years with some members that date back decades alongside Robert Fripp. They're undoubtedly one of the most consistently impressive prog bands right now, and their longetivity is not matched by most of their peers, the best comparison probably being Rush. I would say they're touring their finest line-up and putting on their best performances these past couple years. I was lucky enough to see them for my birthday in 2017, thankfully when they reincorporated their hits into the setlist and had three synchronized drummers playing at once. To say they're unique and talented at their craft is an understatement. I recently listened to their newer material, mostly live recordings, more closely and decided to make a playlist of new songs that have only been heard live these past few years into what would realistically be a new studio EP or LP. Comment your opinion on these songs if you've heard them and share in the love of one of the mightiest bands on the planet. | 1 | | King Crimson Radical Action To Unseat The Hold Of Monkey Mind
Banshee Legs Bell Hassle: there are other instrumentals that would technically be considered new material, half of them drum solos, but I decided to mainly keep this playlist focused on the songs with vocals that would realistically make a hypothetical studio recording one day. Figured this would be a nice intro to kick things off. | 2 | | King Crimson Radical Action To Unseat The Hold Of Monkey Mind
Radical Action (To Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind): I've seen this track divided into three parts, including "Meltdown" in the middle, and also one 10:30 long epic as well. Sort of a heavy rock instrumental with some flute soloing in the section half. This and "Radical Action II" remind me of "Level Five" from The Power to Believe. | 3 | | King Crimson Radical Action To Unseat The Hold Of Monkey Mind
Meltdown: I enjoy this one a lot, sort of sounds like a sequel to "The ConstruKction of Light" or an expansion of the intro to "Vicarious" by Tool. | 4 | | King Crimson Radical Action To Unseat The Hold Of Monkey Mind
Radical Action II: Similar to the first Radical Action, shorter and less going on than the first one. | 5 | | King Crimson Radical Action To Unseat The Hold Of Monkey Mind
Suitable Grounds For The Blues: A lumbering jazz rock track with more of that heavy rock riffing, similar to The Power to Believe. | 6 | | King Crimson Radical Action To Unseat The Hold Of Monkey Mind
Interlude: nice flute instrumental. | 7 | | King Crimson Live in Chicago
The Errors: This is another heavy jazz rock song that sounds like it's from another time in some ways, not weird or abstract enough to be reminiscent of Lizard but it has that kind of spirit mixed with the styles of 2000s King Crimson. | |

01.15.19 | The whole Radical Action suite is my favorite, but all these tracks shine for different reasons. If you're a fan and have a chance to catch them live don't pass it up, this new line-up with the three drummers is unlike any other concert. These guys do not mess around. | bgillesp
01.16.19 | If they put their stuff on streaming services I would devour it but sadly I’ve only ever heard a little bit I their work since I don’t use soulseek and vinyl is expensive | Veldin
01.16.19 | That's really saddening, bgillesp. I wish too wish you could listen to their material in a more reasonable manner. I'm lucky enough to have all Crimson on my external hard-drive and I consider it a treasure. Especially their live album Great Deceiver, goddamn | ArsMoriendi
01.16.19 | "King Crimson arguably founded progressive rock"
I thought that was The Moody Blues with Days of Future Passed? | ArsMoriendi
01.16.19 | Crimson rules though... at least the 5 albums I know by them do | TalonsOfFire
01.16.19 | You might be right Ars, I should hear more of them.
Btw you can get King Crimson CDs for pretty cheap, there’s downloading sites, and all their albums are on iTunes Store. Fwiw a lot of their live albums are on Spotify, including all the songs in this list. | wham49
01.16.19 | havent heard anything after 3 is a perfect pair. I guess I should, but new material from great bands usually turns me off, guess I should check this at least | TalonsOfFire
01.16.19 | I just listened to all their 90s-present material for the first time this past week. None of it really blew me away but I wouldn't call any of it disappointing. Thrak is very enjoyable. A Scarcity of Miracles by Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins would be my favorite since Discipline. It's essentially the latest King Crimson album, with lots of ambient textures and saxophone. Reminds me of Gone to Earth by David Sylvian. | wojodta
01.16.19 | Their most recent stuff is probably their weakest era. TCOL is my least favorite from them. | TalonsOfFire
01.17.19 | Don't disagree aside from A Scarcity of Miracles being excellent, but it's still good stuff and worth checking out if someone made it as far as Three of a Perfect Pair. | ArsMoriendi
01.17.19 | "I should hear more of them."
I recommend it. Days of Future Passed is a hard 5 of mine | wham49
01.17.19 | ya but that is their pinnacle, every other MB is sketchy at best, each album has 1/2 great songs, but a lot of snoozers. |
