Thursday, November 19th Recently a poll was conducted on the R&M subforum of sputnikmusic.com to determine the top albums of the past decade.
A total of 328 albums were submitted for the poll, of which the top 50 are ordered precisely and then the remaining 278 are categorised by number of points received. Albums could be from any genre, though they had to be released between 1 Jan 2000 and 31 Dec 2009, and collections, remasters and greatest hits albums were disallowed. The first round in which the albums were submitted was characterised by a points system – each submission had up to 10 albums, with the first ranked album awarded 10 points, the second 9 points, and so on.
Naturally such a system will lead to ties between albums, and so to disentangle all the tied albums in the top 50, a second round was held where albums with the same number of votes were pitted head to head, with each user selecting one between the albums with that particular score. This is why certain a ...more

Wednesday, October 21st New information has surfaced on Google's plans to get in on digital music distribution.
Last year Google launched a service in China that allowed users to search for music and download the song for free. The service for the rest of the world will be slightly different.
Instead of free downloads, Google will fetch the song the user searches for across various digital vendors (such as Lala and iLike), and feed them the results for free streaming and paid download.
As of now, the service is known as OneBox, and will only act as a web search, not a desktop client or iTunes-like storefront.
Google is expected to announce an official press release on October 28th.
Screenshots of OneBox can be seen at the links below.

Thursday, August 13th Matador Records co-owner Gerard Cosley and Victory Records head Tony Brummel have become involved in another war of words- or just one, to be exact: KARMA.
On Monday night/Tuesday morning, Cosley had the misfortune to watch his South Austin home burn down with all of his possessions lost in the fire. On Wednesday morning, Brummel sent Cosley an email with the word "KARMA" in large font, referring to Cosley's numerous criticisms of his label's business practices on his blog.
Cosley said: "I think he deserves to have it widely circulated. Brummel can rub himself raw at the thought of my suffering personal or material loss ; if something similar happens to him, I’ll be the first person to ship Tony a box of good records. They might be the first decent ones he’s ever heard."

The officers and web team have built the framework that the party needs to get going, now it's time for YOU to make things happen."
In an interview with PC Pro magazine, Robinson set out the party's goals: There should be an exemption for non-commercial use in copyright. Wednesday, July 29th Iconic British weekly New Musical Express has named Krissi Murrison as its new editor, taking over from the departing Conor McNicholas.
Murrison, whose resume includes six years as a staff writer at the magazine, left the magazine in February of this year to take up a position as music director for New York magazine Nylon. She will be the first female to head the magazine in its 57-year history.

The show is reported to be held in New York on September 13.
