NME Names First Female Editor 2009-07-29 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 7 Comments | Iconic British weekly New Musical Express has named Krissi Murrison as its new editor, taking over from the departing Conor McNicholas.
Murrison, whose resume includes six years as a staff writer at the magazine, left the magazine in February of this year to take up a position as music director for New York magazine Nylon. She will be the first female to head the magazine in its 57-year history.
McNicholas has been credited with re-invigorating the NME brand by expanding its internet presence and diversifying into live music, club nights and online radio. However, in what can be seen as a sad indictment of the current state of music journalism, he was convinced to jump ship to take over as editor of BBC's Top Gear magazine.

With the greatest of respect, do you think this could be an opportunity to transform the NME from 'Smash Hits for illiterate prepubescent indie kids' back into something worth reading?
