I don't know why these guys are considered in any way and any form metal. They might be influenced, but it's purely commercial flamenco. If you want quality flamenco, listen to Paco Pena.

what the hell coffee shops do you sit in buddy? Coffee shops around me play jam-bandy hippie non-sense and easy listening, not high-energy Mexican acoustic.

They do not consider themselves flamenco OR metal. Go buy an album. Right inside their self-titled in big bold print it says "We are NOT flamenco." They say they are spanish influenced with metal roots (they both used to be in metal bands) but they do not claim to be either anymore. That's strictly the uninformed masses not knowing how flamenco is played, only how it sounds.

People have fallen into describing them as flamenco/metal for two very good reason's (I think). 1) Gabriela's strumming is easiest to describe as flamenco style because that's what it sounds closest to that most people can identify. 2) The metal part is because it does really sound like acoustic metal in alot of songs, and the fact that they were members of metal bands, and that they love metal.
Are they really flamenco and metal? No. But it sure gives you some idea of what they sound like.
At their shows they cover Slayer and Metallica songs (among others) with their own little twist. Before their shows start the music playing at the venue is usually metal/metallish.
Don't have to get all up in arms about it.
Anyway, they're sick musicians and their self-titled is always in my regular rotation.

I just happened to walk into Amoeba one day and they were playing a live show. Literally changed my life. I can't wait for their new CD. Their cover of Orion is so good.

I've played classical guitar for 5 years now and am quite aware of the playing style of flamenco. I have their debut, and I really like it, my whole point is that it's more like commericial flamenco than metal at all. This is flamenco with a modern spin and style.

Rarely are bands so slammed for what genre they may or may not be. As I know nothing about flamenco, sometimes I call it that, though I know it's not. Whatever, I enjoy the music.
