The Rakes Call it Quits

2009-10-22 by DaveyBoy EMERITUS | 16 Comments
London quartet The Rakes have announced the immediate break-up of their band, despite being just 4 days away from beginning a tour of the U.K.

The band released the following statement: ""The Rakes have always been very adamant and proud of the fact that we give 100 per cent to every gig we've ever played. If we can't give it everything then we won't do it. That was the rule we set ourselves from day one. After much deliberation we have come to the shared conclusion that we can't give it 100 per cent any more and regret to announce that The Rakes are calling it a day."

The band released 3 albums prior to them calling it quits.

'Klang' was a step back in the right direction, but these guys had just lost so much ground on the numerous bands which play their type of music.

Thank fuck; one less trendy indieshit band to worry about. Maybe the Pigeon Detectives can split next.

I saw these guys about 4 years a go and they were alright... probably the only indie gig I've been to in my life. I think most people went to see the Klaxons though...

Yeah I saw them as a support act about 4 years ago, they were alright, but not great. Just another landfill indie band that had to go sooner rather than later...

Yeah, 'Capture/Release' is actually quite a good album, if a little inconsistent.

Slowly these trendy little postpunk bands are dying. I say the next one to die will be the editors.
