2009-11-09 by Trey STAFF | 43 Comments
The line-up currently using the Fear Factory moniker are streaming a new song called "Powershifter". This song comes off of the upcoming album, Mechanize, which is scheduled for a February 9, 2010 release through Candlelight Records.

The album marks the return of original guitarist Dino Cazares (Divine Heresy), and will be rounded out by vocalist Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory), bassist Byron Stroud (Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad), and drummer Gene Hoglan (Death, Strapping Young Lad).

Machanize is also notable for the return of producer Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly, Paradise Lost) and engineer Greg Reely (Skinny Puppy, Paradise Lost).

Song isn't bad. It's definitely better than Arkaea, Divine Heresy and most of the songs on the last few Fear Factory albums. I was hoping for a bit more of a change, though... I guess they need to play it safe.

you stole the news off The Shiznit thread didn't you?! ya little stinker!

but regarding the song, i'm really liking the vocals.

actually the vocals have started to grow on me too, even though at start I told they were bland. Burton's not as good as he was back then, but he is still solid.

I liked it, although it's missing the industrial/synths that i liked about fear factory. hopefully some will get mixed in later on.

Hahahaha laughed pretty hard at this. This band has been so back and forth throughout the last 6 years.

Not true at all.

Song was ok, sounds like it could have come off Digimortal.

I was just reflecting back on how long I've been into Fear Factory.....about 13 years and counting. One of the first metal bands I ever got into.

Song sounds pretty good. The vocals to the pre-chorus seems kinda corny, and the cleans during the chorus weren't very...powerful. They coulda used some power-metal/pop-esque layering to them a la Scar Symmetry to give them a bit more oomph.

Drums were sweet though, and I'm loving all the machine-gun chuggs.

I'd have been great if they had added some synths to the chorus, but other than that it was a pretty good song. I look forward to this

no guitar melodies, no solos... just like it should be!
And if it sounds like it came off 'Bringer of plagues', that's because he's using the same guitar tone as they were recorded one after the other.
