2009-11-16 by anotherdeadjuliet | 22 Comments
Zao are well underway with writing new songs for their next album. The group have already demo’d at least eleven new songs and have more in the works. No word yet on when they will officially begin recording the effort.

Aren't the sons of some of the original members in this band now? World record for lineup changes.

You people like to latch onto things like this, they have had the same core line up writing the majority of the album since 1998, Gretz just joined recently with The Fear and Awake? and he's going to be a mainstay in the band now.

Dan and Scott effectively made Zao theirs after WBAFBR and they have been the main writing forces behind the album. Other bands that use studio members don't catch this much flack, I don't know why you guys do this to Zao. Amidst all the break up's the adding new members they do nothing but release top notch metalcore albums, far better than all of the imitators that they helped create in this music scene.

I thought Awake? was alright. "Romance of the Southern Spirit" is a damn good song, and there's a few other real great moments. Overall, it was a step down from The Fear. So yeah, hope this next one is better.

Everyone should already be expecting a departure of sound from the previous album, none of their albums sound like the last, this can hardly be said for a lot of the bands jocked around here (ahem, AILD) who musically write the same album 2-3 times with different song titles/lyrics.

I consider Funeral of God a 5, and The Fear was a good listen, but I didn't enjoy Awake? at all. It's even a stupid album name.

Who knows what this will be like, but I am still excited anyway.

AgentZero, nothing can be said to convince someone like you, you're not going to listen to reason, you're just going to naysay for naysay's sake. Zao doesn't need fans like you anyway is the way I see it.

Person A:"My band is better than your band."
Person B:"No it's not, that band sucks. "
Person A:"Stfu they are the best ever!"
Person B:"Wtf are you deaf?"
Person A:"No, your opinion doesn't count because you like Britany Spears fgt"
Person B:"LOL YOU RATED MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT A 5?!? LINKIN PARK SUCKS BRO AND SO DOES YOUR OPINIONS"

Generic argument. Who cares what someone likes or dislikes. Seriously, thought you guys would know by now that everyone isn't you. There is no need to get all pissed off when someone hates a band you hate. There is also no need to continue bashing a band that you hate.

As for the album, Probably won't check it out.. My short lived metalcore phase was over a year ago. Will check it out if it gets good reviews though.

Awake? may have not been their finest hour, but it's defiantly not the darkest day. Funeral of God still owns though.

Very true. The chanting section on The Ghost Psalm gives me chills.

I liked The Fear because it was something different which I usually like hearing from bands.
