Well yeah, but I think they're doing it just for a bit of fun with the cast from the musical. They won't be shoving this on the radio, and they won't be putting it on our face via MTV etc. It's just a bit of fun and for the cast of the musical to have some interaction with the band.

In my opinion, I think they (or the label) are doing this because they are having trouble finding commercial singles on 21st Century Breakdown. This and the lead single sell the best, so why not profit some more and recreate one?
