Coldplay Strip Down Next Album

2009-12-09 by Observer EMERITUS | 48 Comments
Coldplay are planning to make their next album a more acoustic project and less of an arena rock affair. The band says that they are tired of cashing in and just want to be closer to their fans on the next release. They have decided to record in an abandoned London Church.

Brain Eno is to produce the band's next album, and it is to be released sometime nect year.

In before someone else asks 'cashing in and want to be closer to their fans', this sounds rather pretentious but is there a possibility that this is misquoted?

why is that?

because if "stripped down" means they will sound like their first album, i'm all for it.

Viva La Vida was their best and although Parachutes also ruled, they already tried recreating that album. Twice.

Don't get me wrong, they were both good albums - but we don't need to go back to that sound.

Hmm, not sure how I feel about this. One of the reasons that Viva la Vida is their best album is that
it is so over the top and theatric. The so-called arena rock sound came out really good on that
album. I hope they don't regress to their "Chris Martin Solo Project" kind of sound with this new
outlook. It will still probably rule though.

^ hell no. Viva la Vida was the most overblown piece of shit I listened to last year. thank god they're doing a less hefty recording the next time around.
But honestly I don't think the phrase 'stripped down' applies to anything done by a modern Eno.

if they take the creative processes from VLV and mix it with their old sound...

well, it'll be amazing.

Could be interesting, I was getting kinda tired of their arena rock sound. On the other hand, I'm not sure the approach would work as well for them as they would like. We'll see.
