Guru Regains Consciousness 2010-03-03 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 7 Comments | Gang Starr MC Guru is fully conscious and recuperating after undergoing a procedure to correct an undisclosed condition.
Guru, born Keith Elam, last week suffered a heart attack and lapsed into a coma.
A short statement issued by his PR company quoted Guru: "I am doing fine and I am recovering! I'm weak though. Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation. Any info from anybody else is false! I appreciate your well wishes and all the love!"
In a further twist, Guru's nephew Justin has posted a Youtube video alleging wrong-doing on the part of the rapper's manager Superproducer Solar.

he did, indeed, have a heart attack

yeah but apparently he had checked into the hospital on February 2nd for an undisclosed condition so he'd been in there awhile before the heart attack.
