Patrick Stump Quits Music?

2012-03-01 by andcas | 113 Comments
The former Fall Out Boy frontman recently took to his blog to
explain the current state of his personal life and musical
career. In shambles, Stump revealed a collection of somber
occurrences such as his latest album commercially tanking,
receiving threatening home letters, and kids attending shows
only to viciously insult him. The now 27-year-old opened up
about how he feels like a "has-been" brought on by guilt trips
for losing weight and his previous band being put on hiatus.

The hardest hit is the massive financial loss in support of Soul
Punk
where nearly all his hard earned savings have vanished
in pursuit of his solo dream. The downward spiral dates back
to 2009 when the group parted ways apparently due to Folie A
Deux's
failure in sales and fans turning on them at concerts.

It's uncertain if Stump will ever choose to grace the microphone or stage again but for now he
sees all this as a sign to disappear completely from the limelight. There's still huge optimism
that one day Fall Out Boy will reunite but until then it's unlikely a solo follow-up will come. In
the meantime Stump will continue to be a songwriter/producer and try to seek other avenues.

It's a shame to me, personally. I liked what he was doing with his solo work quite a bit. It's been a while since I've heard some new listenable pop/R&B

that said, he'll be back.

That's unfortunate. I liked his solo stuff and he has a really great voice.

Pretty lame that people show up just to heckle him.

But as far as finances go... Well, I dunno. It just doesn't seem like you should really be expecting big returns from music anymore due to downloading and such. Sure, maybe if you're Lady Gaga or whatever but... Well, sorry, Stump isn't there. Fall Out Boy wasn't even there.

That's not saying you can't be successful as a musician, but it is saying that you've got to modify your expectations to reflect things. It's unfortunate, but true.

Shame Soul Punk failed so hard. I checked the sales, and 9000 copies sold in the first week is terrible. Especially considering he put a lot of his own funds into the making the album.

Well, yeah, that should be the case with all musicians but unfortunately whatever fans that have been hassling him obviously believe that he's changed for the worse because his physical image has. They associate his new image with the musical direction they don't like, and have decided to attack that along with his sound.

For the record, I think Mr. Stump is an incredible singer, his voice is comparable to that of Prince's and he can play the shit out of his instruments.

But some of that stuff described is simply unacceptable. What the hell's the matter with the world?
