Cheers for the title change [whoever approved this.]
|
| |
Neither am I, he's been getting less and less metal with each year that goes by.
|
| |
Really not surprised about this tbh. [2]
|
| |
fun
|
| |
It's understandable.
|
| |
bloodbath wasnt anything special anyway
|
| |
Nah, Band was never the same after Dan Swano left and with him it was just flat out all right.
|
| |
@HSThomas m/ Fuck Yeah
|
| |
band was never that good
neither is akerfeldt
also his vocals sucked
|
| |
saw this coming a long time ago
|
| |
He can't growl anymore, so I'm kinda glad they found someone who could. I'm assuming this means that
they'll actually start touring/releasing material again, though?
|
| |
as long as swano is there thats all they really need
|
| |
Yeah, definitely.
|
| |
I thought Swano quit bloodbath in '06...
|
| |
need less Opeth
|
| |
ugh Mikael needs to keep it metal, cmon
|
| |
@MetallicOpeth He did, we're just saying the band was never the same when he left.
|
| |
"I thought Swano quit bloodbath in '06..."
he did
|
| |
Yeah I'm not surprised since Mikael seems to hate metal now. Hopefully this means that Bloodbath will release a decent album again, since their last one was really meh.
|
| |
@KJSwantko, oops, sorry. Always annoying when that happens.
|
| |
it's all good brotha.
Pretty soon Akerfeldt is gonna outlaw all songs for live performances that aren't on Damnation
|
| |
I can totally envision that. Why is he been going the anti metal way these past few years is all Im wondering.
|
| |
meh band, now for a long list of H's:
mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
|
| |
its not cool anymore
metal is for angry kids
|
| |
You have a point, I swear metal is going through its dark age now. (Or somewhere close to that.)
|
| |
i wasnt serious
|
| |
Neither was I.
|
| |
Ahem.
There's only room on this site for one of these avatars... GTFO :D
|
| |
which Zdzislaw image would you recommend I change to then? (I am DEFINETLY not changing my art style, zdzislaw was a god! lol.)
|
| |
Haha i'm not really being serious... although it is kinda weird seeing someone else with it. Idk all of his art is fucking amazing you really can't go wrong ^.^
|
| |
Yeah I know. Alow me to take this moment to say R.I.P You legend amongst men. I mean I made a list on here about my fav artists and he came top easy.
|
| |
Got to see them at Bloodstock a couple of years ago, which was pretty sweet.
|
| |
So I guess I saw the last Bloodbath show with Akerfeldt...cool.
Also what if Dan Swano came back as the new vocalist? Hes already been guitar and drums so why not?
|
| |
Akerfeldt grows a vagina
|
| |
I'm not surprised cuz in other interviews he's been saying he wants to drop the usage of death growls in later Opeth albums (or at least that's what his implication sounds like), but who knows he might change his mind.
As long as the new vocalist is just as good as Mike is at growlz. I'll be fine. But it sounds like Mike is hinting that they're leaning to have new material with prog elements in it.
|
| |
full on prog it seems, he's actually excited to start writing again after doing Heritage...he's never been excited about writing a new album. If that's not a clear indication I don't know what is.
|
| |
Wonder how Storm Corrosion will turn out. Im quite stoked
|
| |
Not suprised at this, I just hope he doesnt remove growls from Opeth's music for good.
|
| |
Tagtgren is better anyway
|
| |
Opeth played The Grand Conjuration and ye olde encore classic Demon of the Fall when I saw them on the Heritage/Hunter tour with Mastodon this week. It was nice to see (after the growl-devoid Heritage tour) that they weren't completely and forevermore adverse to playing the heavier tunes with harsh vocals. I don't think they will ever return to that in new material, however.
|
| |
"He can't growl anymore, so I'm kinda glad they found someone who could."
Did you hear the live video of Eaten they did recently? His growls are just fine.
|
| |
Mikael- "It doesn’t really have to do with anything with my screaming vocals, it’s just that it’s not a progressive project for me."
really means
"it has everything to do with my vocals. I'm a pussy now."
|
| |
Predictable
|
| |
Fun [2]
|
| |
I thought the band was done years ago.
Anyway, they never were that great to begin with.
|
| |
He says it's not the harsh vocals...but it is. He's just a fuckin' ass face.
|
| |
Bloodbath are always a fun listen but nothing more really, besides Peter Tatgtren was better anyway
|
| |

Yea I caught the tour in NYC on Wednesday. Their Heritage stuff was great to hear live but you could tell the crowd was a little antsy to hear more of the old stuff. Good thing he ended the set well. It was my first time seeing Opeth but to me he sounded fine growling and the crowd fuckin loved it.
|
| |
Losing more respect for Akerfeldt every day....
Shame, he used to be my favorite metal artist.
|
| |
lol
|
| |
As for Bloodbath. I never really listened to them a whole lot, but Akerfeldt has a point when it comes to death metal. There isnt much room for growth if you're playing it straight up since there are so many limitations for purists. Opeth pretty much got as prog as you can get with death metal. Somebody has to keep experimenting with death metal to keep it fresh unless you want the same shit over and over.
The thing with Heritage was it was a very solid prog rock album, but it wasnt really anything great. More like paying tribute to 70s prog. Which is fine, but the next album needs to build more on that and try something new. Bands change. Just hope they dont get worse.
|
| |
People, people, people. Dan Swano will never do death metal vocals live. he says himself he can sustain them for a verse or there about then get considerable discomfort and stop. Plus I'm pretty sure he is busy with a melodic/progressive dm project called "Witherscape" as well as planning the new Nightingale. Nope, just bring back Peter Tantgren (even if he is busy with new Hypocrisy), get Johan Hegg or quit while your still respected as a band
|
| |
The guy really needs to come out and be honest... "I can't do death growls anymore, I'm getting old, and my statement has already been made"
|
| |
^You really have to come out and watch an Opeth concert.
|
| |
yea, he can still growl live no problemo
and Yankee shut up already
|
| |
his vox are fine, it's his vagina that is acting up
|
| |
Initially I only read 'Akerfeldt Quits' and actually almost shat myself.
|
| |
bloodbath sucks
|
| |
well poop at least opeth still lives
|
| |
I'm reading some of these comments and facepalming repeatedly. Akerfeldt isn't losing his edge you fucktards. The man has been playing death metal for over 20 years and his musical interests are changing. I agree that his growls are nowhere near amazing as they used to be 10 years ago, but I just saw Opeth this past Wednesday in NYC and they played The Grand Conjuration and Demon of the Fall. And guess what?! He still fucking owned that shit. So seriously, grow the fuck up, try using your brains a little, and just realize that people's interests change. He's stated on several occasions that death metal will always be near and dear to his heart but sometimes the musician needs to make music that appeases him, not only the little crybabys that demand death growls. I will continue to listen and love whatever music the man makes.
|
| |
Nearly shat myself after reading "Akerfeldt Quits"
|
| |
Everyone listen to Larry David.
|
| |
well poop at least opeth still lives
Not much though.
|
| |
Did you hear the live video of Eaten they did recently? His growls are just fine.
Unless it's this, I have no idea what you're talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf9O1G0Acvs
...and his vocals there are awful. Someone show me proof that he can still growl.
|
| |
Vocals are dissapointing but aren't that bad either
|
| |
Thought he announced this a long time ago.
Oh well, Bloodbath is always a fun listen.
|
| |
akerfeldt's becoming such a pussy
can't believe you manvags stick up for this chode munch
|
| |
next in line: mikael the dream-pop singer
|
| |
zaruyache - During the Bloodstock show he was using different ear equipment so he thought he sounded different to usual, he vocals are strained because he was trying to correct it. It's the same during the Albert Hall show of Opeth...so he's stopped using it now.
|
| |
Mikael just doesn't want to be involved with metal anymore. It's too bad really, he was pretty good at
it.
|
| |
akerfeldt quits opeth because "they just aren't that progressive"
|
| |
Well, he's already in the best Camel cover band around.
|
| |
BRING BACK SWANO!!
|
| |
zaruyache - During the Bloodstock show he was using different ear equipment so he thought he sounded different to usual, he vocals are strained because he was trying to correct it. It's the same during the Albert Hall show of Opeth...so he's stopped using it now.
I'll have to look up a more recent performance, then.
...
Didn't Swano also quit because he wanted more prog in the group, and the rest didn't? Obviously he and Akerfeldt should start a prog death band by themselves.
|
| |
Akerfeldt is FUCKING UP!
|
| |

This is from March, and his vocals sound the same.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUmVe68ABxI
|
| |
Peter Tagtgren's vocals matched the music better
|
| |
Obviously he and Akerfeldt should start a prog death band by themselves.
He should just join Akerfeldt and Wilson then they can all be boring and blow each other.
|
| |
@ xeno - well their still playing some heavier stuff, in the format of clean set first then 2 or 3 heavy tunes to save his voice. new album will dictate if he has tho
|
| |
Don't include my huggie bear Swano in any gay circle blowing >:-( Swano only makes manly music about love... and other... manly... stuff! FU!
|
| |
it’s just that it’s not a progressive project for me. It’s just paying tribute to death metal and I’ve done it for such a long time. And when it stops being fun, I don’t really want to participate. We do things so rarely it’s always been fun. The shows we’ve done have been fun, but I don’t feel the need to do it.”
And this is him pretty much fucking off from what he does best. Pretty much confirmation that Opeth will never do dm in their music again. Fuck!
Hopefully this means that Bloodbath will release a decent album again, since their last one was really meh.
He made the band so much tighter and better. Their old stuff is just sloppy and unimaginative.
|
| |
Akerphelps sux a good one for this.
|
| |
Not really big news, and not surprising.
|
| |
lol
|
| |
hahahahahahahaha
|
