Faith No More to record new album

2014-09-02 by Trey STAFF | 68 Comments
Faith No More is currently recording their first full-length album since 1997's Album Of The Year.

A limited-edition (5000 copies) seven-inch single of the song "Motherfucker" will precede the April 2015 release, available via Record Store Day's "Black Friday" event (November 28). The single will be released digitally on December 9.

Asked what the new material sounds like, Gould told RollingStone.com: "What I can say is that I think through our experience as musicians over the years, I think what we're doing reflects where we've gone since we made our last record as Faith No More. I think this kicks things up a notch. And I think there's parts that are very powerful and there's parts that have a lot of 'space.'

"Everything we do, with our chemistry, the way we play; it's always going to sound like us. It's just what we do, that makes us feel good. Hopefully it doesn't sound like a bunch of 50-year-old men... which we are! [Laughs]"

He added: "There's going to be a lot of space and scope — big, big sound-stage space — but I also think there's gonna be a lot of those things that we already have. All I can say is what we're doing just feels right."

Faith No More 2014 is:

Mike Patton (vocals)
Bill Gould (bass)
Mike Bordin (drums)
Roddy Bottum (keyboards)
Jon Hudson (guitar)

"gonna suck"

We're talking about Faith No More here. The band has only made 4+ albums since Mike Patton joined. If Dinosaur Jr. can
come back strong, why not FNM?

I'm kinda scared to hear any of FNM's material past The Real Thing because of the lack of Jim Martin. Oh, well... Great to see these guys making a comeback!

Agreed. He added a whole other dynamic to the band. The guitarists after him lacked any identity... which is crazy considering they had Bungle's guitarist for a little while.

Angel Dust had Jim Martin and is their best album.

I'm not as excited as I could be just because I was never a fan of the post-Jim albums.

Angel dust was the best by fr but NOT because of Jim imo he was the most underwhelming member at that point in time dunno about TRT or when chuck was running the show

King for a Day's guitar work was extremely distinguished. The album lacked the atmosphere of Angel Dust, but the songs riffed just as hard. I will say the guitar barely did what it needed to get by on AOTY though.

While I do agree that The Real Thing and Angel Dust are superior to King for a Day and Album of the Year all 4 are still
amazing.

Sorry, I didn't read that memo, so I edited the comment.

Hmmm haven't heard FNM's debut but...

1.Angel Dust
2.The Real Thing
3.King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime
4.Album of the Year
5.Introduce Yourself

Replacing Mosely with Patton was probably one of the best calls in rock history.

Chuck Mosely had attitude, I'll say that much. But compared to Mike Patton, yeah... I'm just going to leave it at that.

Mosely actually gets the job done on Introduce Yourself, but you compare anyone to Mike Patton and they're going to come
up short.

Well. Last Faith no More album was plain bad. Also all those non-releases live songs that one could hear over the years were not even close to what Faith no More made special back then.

It probably won't suck, but I don't believe in anything really good either.

Jim Martin was never big into the songwriting process...in reality. Anyways, my favourite works from them are 'Angel Dust' and 'King For a Day', period. Saw them back in 1995 and woah! For the new album, we'll see what happens..

I can see this being the real deal though, because Patton doesn't need to add this workload unless he really wanted to, he has enough work these days. So it should be a good album... I hope.
