Ex-Death bassist dead at 47

2015-03-25 by BornDeadBuriedAlive | 47 Comments
Bassist Scott Clendenin, who played on Death's classic The Sound Of Perseverance LP, as well as on Live In LA and Live In Eindhoven '98, has passed away at the age of 47. Clendenin also played with late Death founder Chuck Schuldiner in Control Denied, from 1997-1999. He had been a part of several Death To All live dates in 2012 and 2013.

Death's manager, Eric Greif, posted the following on the band's Facebook page:

"With a sense of shock I'm letting all of you know of the passing today of former DEATH bassist Scott Clendenin. Scott had some health challenges in the last few years but was optimistic about his prospects. Of course he was the skilled player on The Sound of Perseverance DEATH album, and recently participated in two DTA live runs, in 2012 and 2013, including the highlight of his acoustic guitar in a poignant rendition of Voice of the Soul. Our thoughts go out to Scott's family at this difficult time. ERIC"

TSOP has been my #1 favorite album for some two years, the bass was legendary there. This hits hard, though I am glad Steve DiG is still alive.

RIP Scott

He had health problems (don't know the details), but he seemed to be getting better. This was unexpected and as far as I know there still isn't an exact cause.

Yep, just heard Death on the top 40 stations. Truly this was all part of a master scheme to launch Death into the mainstream.
