k so when the 3.5 review drop
|
| |
After I drop my 2.5 review
|
| |
damn, harsh
|
| |
Nah I haven't jammed it yet tbh, just my guess based on the singles. Gonna go in with an open mind though so idk.
|
| |
It's gonna be a 2.5; we don't even need to joke. I'm going to be objective in my listening but I really don't expect anything more than that.
|
| |
I'm a sucker for that kinda choral-y vocals and ambient stuff but even then it's not that good. It's not disastrous either; it's, you know, Myrkur

tracks
1. dec
2. guitar tone isn't evil at all, turning up the bass loud doesn't make you evil, sounds awful
3. enya metal 3/5
4. short but interesting good vox best song yet (bc it's all choral)
5. not bad. No horribly loud bass to mess up the riffs
6. happy sings w/ piano m/
7. idk why they put dumb bass in track 2 when this sounds much better. Basic bm but not horrible.
8. More pianos. More sings. More gudder. She should really do this instead of bm.
9. enya metal. Decent.
10. heavy sound isn't so bad here. Her screams really are pretty good.
11. moar pianoossszszszszszz
2.5/5 not horrible but it needs a loooooooooooooot of work. Her vocals and piano work were definite standout aspects of the record.

Nice review. Track-by-track reviews are generally frowned upon on this site, but it's decent for a first review. Pos'd btw ;)

;)))))))))))))))))))

I wonder how long being a woman will manage to keep distracting people from the fact that she makes boring bm
|
| |
well, to be fair, she's just one mediocre bm musician in a sea of mediocre bm musicians of all genders
but yeah she shouldn't use her gender just to gain attention like that
|
| |
It just seems like she still kinda has no idea what she wants her music to sound like. The tracks feel pretty disjointed. She tried to build atmosphere but it doesn't really work. I really love her cleans though dammit. They're awesome. They take this from being painfully average to decently enjoyable.
|
| |
"It just seems like she still kinda has no idea what she wants her music to sound like" this, so much. Also, I think this has to do with the amount of collaborators and musicians from a myriad of bands participating in writing most of her stuff, not all of them are gonna have the same vision
and yeah, her cleans rule, nvm how processed they are
|
| |
if she did a whole album devoted to developing Enya black metal, she could actually create something interesting. And the average track length here should be a pretty big tip off to most metal fans that not much is going on here, since most metal songs--especially bm songs--last way more than three minutes. With how short her songs are it feels like there just wasn't enough content to create whole songs so they just used what they had to make a bunch of short pieces instead of actually fleshing out any of the ideas.

some okay moments
really not great overall
|

Danish newspapers are gushing over her as this "great female black-metaller" gimmick, which shows you how little you can trust mainstream media, even good ones, on things like underground music.
|
| |
you shouldn't trust what the media says about music or art in general anyway. Bands like Nickelback get decent reviews on All Music, you know.
|
| |
Media is almost dumbfoundingly idiotic when it comes to music
|
| |
curious i guess

zaruyache is right. You should trust some random guy on the Internet with no credentials who posts under a pseudonym so you can't identify who he really is. He has many more reasons to say something of substance that's actually true and factually identifiable. Fuck those guys who write for 'media outlets'. Who do they think they are? Telling me what something is, how it sounds, where it excels?
But believe me guys, this album stinks. 2.5/5.

Who would have thought Myrkur fanboys existed?
|
| |
Look, there's another one. The epileptic frog strikes again.
|
| |
Pathetic, as usual.
|
| |
Self-projection at its finest.

I'd rather put more faith in the musical community at large and reviewers and users I can actually communicate with to discuss music than mostly faceless professionals who get paid to jerk off the new Billboard top ten garbage. I guess I should've clarified that earlier but I just assumed that point would've been understood my bad tho.

jerk off the new Billboard top ten garbage.
I guess I should've clarified that earlier but I just assumed that point would've been understood my bad tho.
Considering you completely missed your own point here (by implying [albeit possibly indirectly] that Myrkur has the potential to reach high marks on Billboard) the second time around, you shouldn't be so quick to make such supreme assumptions.
|
| |
The metal media, while equally stupid, works on different ways -- specifically, they don't deal with Billboard pop, it's surprising that fact passed you by.
|
| |
Way better than new Drudkh.
|
| |
He never said "Billboard pop", he said "Billboard top ten", and metal albums do crack it from time to time.
|
| |
it's not like people who write raving reviews about the top music don't also write stuff about the other major label junk on the charts, too. Point being, a cursory search for this album turned up a handful of positive reviews for this album from 'mainstream' metal sites... and outside of those specific individuals who make a point of writing often about music, I've seen similar sentiments just about nowhere else in the music community. It's like cognitive dissonance or major label bias are infectious among professional review sites.

I still think there's a overage of backlash here, where people are hating on it more than it really deserves to unconsciously make up for the fact that others like it more than it really deserves.
Therefore, we end up with a lower mid-range rating, which is what it actually deserves so I don't see an issue.
|
| |
Idk I gave it my honestest rating
|
| |
it's meh

Are you surprised by this site?

I wouldn't really call giving generally lukewarm commentary on a generally lukewarm album an "overage" of backlash.
|
| |
I wouldn't consider the head up my ass to be that far up my ass.
